ClearedJobs.Net Sponsors AFCEA NOVA Chapter’s STAR Program

April 16, 2009 Falls Church, Virginia — ClearedJobs.Net announced today its continuing sponsorship of the AFCEA Northern Virginia chapter’s Successfully Transitioning from Active to Retired (STAR) Program, a program which eases the move to private-sector employment by disseminating valuable information to military and government retirees. ClearedJobs.Net’s Chief Marketing Officer and AFCEA NOVA’s Military Government Transition Committee Chairperson, Kathleen Smith, co-founded the STAR Program along with AFCEA NOVA’s Chair, Strategic Advisory Council’s Col. Kevin Hoey (Ret. USMC) in 2007 to supplement the information provided in government transition assistance programs.

As co-founder, Smith is a strong advocate of the STAR Program. “Transitioning into private-sector employment is a difficult step for many military and government personnel,” says Smith. “We know the value of networking and how it is beneficial to everyone no matter what stage they are in their career. This program starts the bridge from government connections to private industry. It’s always beneficial to have a strong network to assist you through your career.”

As the marketing lead for the number one job board for professionals with security clearances, Smith also recognized her participation in this program would underscore ClearedJobs.Net’s commitment to supporting security cleared professionals and transitioning military personnel. “The STAR Program provides military and government personnel a chance to network and engage with industry executives, program managers and recruiters interested in candidates like them,” says Smith. “It highlights the importance of networking as a key component of the transition process, a fact our ClearedJobs.Net staff helps job seekers to understand as they begin contemplating private-sector employment.”

Smith believes the program’s focus on sharing experiences and facilitating discussions is particularly successful. “STAR event speakers share their real-life experiences, which shows the audience that everything is possible and that networking is a continuous process,” she says

The STAR Program is open to chapter as well as non-chapter members in government or military. Registration fees typically are around $15. The speaker round up for the next STAR event, scheduled for April 22, includes:

  • Diane Bellegarde (USA Veteran) Vice President of Operations, Worldwide Information Network Systems
  • Mr. Terry DiVittorio (USAF Veteran) Vice President, Copper River Information Technology
  • Brig. Gen. Bruce Bohn (USAF, Ret) President, Bohn Consulting Services
  • Spain "Woody" Hall, Jr. (SES, Ret) Vice President of Information Technology/CIO, General Dynamics IT

Registration information and more details are available at the chapter’s Web site.
