ClearedJobs.Net Kicks Off Military Spouse Appreciation Effort on Twitter

(April 26, 2010) Falls Church, Virginia — In 2009, ClearedJobs.Net initiated an effort to publicly recognize military spouses on Military Spouse Appreciation Day — a national recognition usually held each year on the Friday before Mother's Day. ClearedJobs.Net's military spouse appreciation endeavor — an exclusive Twitter-specific initiative using the handle @milspouseday — had successfully highlighted more than 60 military spouses on the popular social utility tool for their sacrifice and dedication to their military husbands and wives on active duty.

The objective behind this military spouse outreach effort is to express appreciation for military spouses who often must endure months apart from their loved ones. Many such spouses must survive months without their marital partners and must keep their families going as their husbands or wives serve overseas or at locations far from home. As the leading security cleared job board with a very active pool of military-to-civilian employment job seekers, ClearedJobs.Net believes recognizing the many sacrifices of military spouses is a relevant, meaningful cause to engage in.

The original concept launched in May 2009 centered primarily on using Twitter to identify military spouses from all sects of the U.S. Armed Forces. This year's @milspouseday initiative — which takes place from Monday, April 26 through Saturday, May 8, 2010 — will leverage the foundation built upon last year's campaign and seeks to spotlight nearly 100 dedicated military spouses who actively support our military men and women.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 to recognize and honor the contributions and sacrifices of military spouses.

"Day in and day out, the military spouses of our country make sacrifices most of us wouldn't want or have to. Our Twitter-centric military spouse appreciation effort is a small token of how much we value what these families often have to go through as a result of long overseas deployments or moving around from base to base," says Kathleen Smith, Chief Marketing Officer for ClearedJobs.Net. "We are thankful for the spirit and dedication of military spouses and will continue to seek them out online and highlight as many as we can find."
