University Programs: Systems Engineering Intern

As a Defense Contractor, there are specific programs requiring a certain level of Security Clearance and Special access for assigned staff. The selected candidate will be required to secure these accesses. Not being able to secure the Interim Secret Security Clearance needed for this position may result in an offer of employment being rescinded. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a Security Clearance.

This position requires a U.S. person or the ability to obtain an Export Authorization from the appropriate Government Agency for non-U.S. persons.

The Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Systems Mission Area in Raytheon Space & Airborne Systems, seeks a Fall Intern to provide technical support and analysis to several programs supporting Radar Sensor System (RSS) efforts. The programs are radar related and integration and test analysis support. The position will reside in the System Engineering Integration & Test Center (SEIT) within the Airborne Multi-Mission Platforms section. This systems engineer will work amongst other Systems Engineers and will support the chief engineer, and lead systems engineer. Specific duties may include development, trade study generation, root cause analysis, test set design and data analysis for complex systems using Raytheon Engineering processes and practices. Related day-to-day duties include: participating in peer reviews, performance analysis, and resolving identified problems. This individual will interface with their team lead, team members, and other teams on a daily basis, conduct or participate in customer and/or program presentations, and provide task progress status updates and work products to the team lead.

Job Related Activities:
  • Work with leadership and/or customers to elicit objectives and requirements and resolve technical issues
  • Using MATLAB and other tools to analyze and collect technical data
  • Participate in customer reviews and program technical reviews
  • Ensure the consistent application of engineering best practices and all activities undertaken under your control are conducted to common standards in accordance with Raytheon's IPDS processes
  • Using Raytheon 6 Sigma proactively to foster a culture of continuous process improvement

For Multi-Level Intern Requisitions:
This position can be a Salary Grade of G04, G05 or NUG based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.
  • G04 (College Junior by Fall 2020) - must have completed 60 hours of college
  • G05 (College Senior by Fall 2020) - must have completed 90 hours of college
  • NUG (Post- Graduate-Masters-PhD by Fall 2020) - must have an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled or about to enroll in a graduate degree program
Required Skills:
  • Experience in any of the following areas: RF, Radar Systems, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering
  • Strong mathematical problem solving ability
  • Ability to work as a member of a dedicated team
  • Strong interpersonal communication, presentation skills, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated capability of completing and following established procedures and schedules
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
Desired Skills:
  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying)
  • Experience working on a radar problem in an academic or industrial setting
Required Education:
  • Currently pursuing a BS from a 4-year University and entering as a college Junior or Senior year OR pursuing a MS / PhD by Fall 2020 with a major in Electrical engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering , or equivalent technical discipline.
  • Must be appropriate grade level listed above.
