University Programs: Electrical Engineer I

As a defense contractor, there are specific programs requiring a certain level of security clearance and special access for assigned staff. The selected candidate will be required to secure these accesses. Not being able to secure the Interim Secret Security Clearance needed for this position may result in an offer of employment being rescinded.

Job Description:
Electrical CAD position in the SAS Hardware Engineering Center, Engineering Shelter & Antenna systems Department located in Fort Wayne, IN. The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) designs and develops electronics and test equipment for RF, EW, Communications and EO sensors. The Center provides engineering, technology development, and manufacturing support for an extensive line of airborne, ground, and space-based systems.

The candidate’s specific work will vary but may include the following:

  • The primary responsibilities of this position will include, but not limited to: Interpreting schematic diagrams and utilizing preliminary sketches, diagrams, and other engineering information to generate PCB designs for Analog, Power Supply, RF and Digital Systems
  • Executing the detail design for printed circuit boards (PCB) and completion of documentation to IPC and Raytheon standards
  • Self-check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications
  • Working with the Sr. ECAD Designers and Producibility Engineers to facilitate design reviews as they relate to PCB layout and design for manufacturability
  • Incorporating Engineering Changes on PCB layouts and drawings
  • Will require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation and the ability to work in a team environment to develop components or sections of electronic systems
  • You will learn frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, concepts and techniques. You will be expected to provide recommendations to a variety of technical problems of appropriate scope and complexity, working under general supervision. Successful candidates should expect to be immersed in a fast-paced, team-based, and challenging technical environment where an individual with talent and initiative can stand out and thrive.


U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with some Electrical CAD design tools
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
  • A team player with a high level of initiative and ability to work in an environment of rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Strong organizational skills and process oriented
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to multi-task
  • Experience with MS Office tool suite
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security clearance within the first year of starting
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems


Desired Skills:

  • Experience with ECAD tools (Mentor Xpedition, DxDesigner, BluePrint, Zuken CR-5000, VALOR)
  • Experience with design, assembly, and integration of mechanical or electrical systems
  • Ability to apply engineering principles, theories, and concepts to the ECAD Designs
  • Have strong technical aptitude as shown by work or school experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience through work or school projects
  • Be a hands on person with ability to work with lab, production equipment
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA if recent college graduate and 1 year or less of work experience


Required Education (including major): 4 year Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
