Transient Alert Supervisor

Job Summary

The Transient Alert Supervisor is responsible for supervising the Aircraft Transient Alert staff in performing courteous and prompt servicing of all arriving and departing aircraft in accordance with applicable technical orders.

Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)

  • Supervise and train the Aircraft Transient Alert staff responsible for directing transient aircraft to designated parking locations and performing servicing activities including aircraft parking, chocking, grounding, marshaling, towing, deicing, and hangaring
  • Perform aircraft recovery, launch, and aircrew briefings in accordance with requirements
  • Operate 'Follow me' vehicles, deicing and staircase trucks, towing and other equipment used in recovering transient aircraft
  • Prepare and implement standard operating procedures and track performance with metrics
  • Report status of transient aircraft; ensure adequate firefighting equipment is located at each aircraft; monitor, inspect, and remove foreign objects from aircraft parking areas; and arrange for ramp sweeping as necessary
  • Assist with replenishing and maintaining liquid and gaseous oxygen and nitrogen carts; maintain related documentation; and follow all directives concerning environmental laws pertaining to ozone depleting chemicals and disposition of solvents, fluids, and other fuels
  • Perform internal quality control checks and self-performance audits, ensure compliance with safety and performance standards, and prepare reports
  • Ensure work areas are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Technical knowledge and expertise to handle and service all transient aircraft
  • Knowledge of radio and telephone procedures for communicating with Air Operations and Air Traffic Control Tower
  • Working knowledge of standard Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and military visual signaling (both fixed wing and rotary)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Must master English assessment
  • Ability to pass a flight line access test and obtain flight line access badge
  • Additional knowledge and skill requirements may vary by assignment

Experience & Education

  • Minimum three (3) years of military and/or civilian experience in the transient alert field with at least one (1) year in a leadership role
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Flight Line Driver’s License
  • Additional experience and education requirements may vary by assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Ability to work in close proximity to operating aircraft
  • Exposed to hazardous noises that require wearing hearing protection and other personal protective equipment
  • Ability to operate, move, and lift equipment such as tow bars, portable stairs, runway sweeper, and other vehicles
  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions


  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
