As a defense contractor, there are specific programs requiring a certain level of security clearance and special access for assigned staff. The selected candidate will be required to secure these accesses. Not being able to secure the Interim Secret Security Clearance needed for this position may result in an offer of employment being rescinded.

The Hardware Engineering Center Test Automation Department is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to implement common test automation solutions for programs and capital projects. The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on product producibility and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Space and Airborne Systems to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically.

We are currently seeking a System Test Equipment (STE) Hardware/Software Development Engineering intern to join our dynamic and growing engineering team. You will report to the Electronic Warfare STE Sustainment Section Manager at our facility in Point Mugu, California. You will provide technical support to ALR-67(V)3 PBL Sustainment Team and other development programs.

You will be responsible for applying the latest technology and concepts in design, development and integration of System Test Equipment (including RF Test equipment) for EW programs.

You will have use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts understanding and ability to apply the technical theories, and systems engineering concepts to the hardware / software design, development and integration of engineering hardware. You will work under direction of supervisor and will have contact with internal leads and technical mentors and will develops solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.

You will also support PBL sustainment activities, applying solutions to technical problems associated trouble shooting of existing STE hardware and software. This may include occasional travel to manufacturing facilities in support of operations activities.

Required Skills:
  • 0-2 years of hardware/software engineering, system integration, testing or other related experience
  • Basic understanding of hardware and software test and development, including engineering theories and principles.
  • Ability contribute to the completion of routine technical tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to coordinate with internal supervision and team leaders.
  • Company Internship with internal and/or external customer data presentations and/or interface experience.
  • Knowledge or experience (and/or education) with any of the following software programing languages Verilog, C++, JAVA, Labview, C#, Visual basic or ADA
  • Must be able to readily obtain a DOD Secret security clearance
  • Must be able to obtain an interim Secret security clearance PRIOR to starting
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with MS Office Applications (i.e. Word, Powerpoint, Excel, MS Project)
  • Good communications skills
  • Internal and external customer interface experience.
  • Experience with tactical EW systems and execution of flight testing related activities
  • Experience or education in utilization and programming of COTS test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes , frequency analyzers)
  • Limited knowledge of Systems Engineering principles, including the engineering principles associated with test hardware and general purpose/special test equipment (STE) development.

Required Education: Currently pursuing a BS / BA degree from an accredited four-year university and entering as a college Senior OR pursuing a MS / MA by Fall 2021.
Must be working towards a degree in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics, Applied Physics, or equivalent technical discipline.
