Technical Coordinator/Sr. Technical Coordinator

For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Technical Coordinator/Senior Technical Coordinator. You will support the Supply Chain Organization within the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate. You will provide technical and administrative coordination support for acquisition, tracking, and coordination of parts, materials, and sub-systems on a variety of electronic and mechanical hardware/ components and fabrications. This position will require occasional domestic travel. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate and will be supporting the Advanced Sources and Detectors (ASD) Scorpius Program.

This position will be filled at either the 538.2 or 538.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide general coordination support through intermediate technical and administrative knowledge to scientific, engineering, and technical personnel in connection with acquisition of electronic parts/materials/equipment for facility operations and scientific research activities.
- Participate as a project team member to provide moderately complex acquisition support to senior technicians, technical associates, and engineers/scientists on small to large projects.
- Interact with vendors, requestors, LLNL Procurement, production control, LLNL Receiving, and mechanical shops to meet project cost and schedule demands.
- Provide detailed award/delivery status to supervisor and customers/requesters. Anticipate and reconcile supply problems, including technical factors affecting critical milestones.
- Stage, transport, and deliver parts around the LLNL site; for secondary operations and/or staging of assembly/installation efforts; deliver or pick-up parts from local-area suppliers.
- Research and make recommendations of substitute products with similar technical specifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition, at the 538.3 Level
- Prepare complex technical procurement packages for mechanical fabrications including specifications and statements of work, as well as quality assurance and inspection requirements.
- Monitor complex procurement deliverables and provide technical interface between LLNL and supplier, e.g. on time deliverables, milestone reviews, and technical resolutions during processing.
- Make independent decisions regarding fabrication alternatives, supplier selections and substitute hardware and materials using LLNL guidelines, techniques, and procedures.

Qualifications
- Associate degree in electronic technology; or equivalent combination of education and prior relevant experience in electronic fabrication.
- Intermediate understanding and experience of ANSI International Electronic Standards including semiconductors, electronic, and high-reliability electronic components for the practical application of breaking down BOMs (Bill of Materials) for acquisition at the component level.
- Intermediate level understanding of the fabrication acquisition process; knowledge of approval, bid, award, inspection acceptance, receive, reconciliation, and close-out.
- Effective written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal, teamwork, and multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; to include intermediate skill level with Microsoft Excel (data consolidation, formulas, and macros).
- Ability to travel domestically.

In Addition, at the 538.3 Level
- Advanced understanding and significant experience of ANSI International Electronic Standards including semiconductors, electronic, and high-reliability electronic components for the practical application of breaking down BOMs (Bill of Materials) for acquisition at the component level.
- Advanced understanding of the fabrication acquisition process; knowledge of approval, bid, award, inspection acceptance, receive, reconciliation, and close-out.
- Familiarity with electrical interconnects and electronic components.

Desired Qualifications
- Journey-level skills and experience as an electronic technician.
- Experience with electronic and mechanical shop processes.
- Working knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems.

 

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
