Tech Training Specialist II

Job Description
The Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLED) is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user.

WLED seeks a Technical Training Specialist who will develop training materials based out of Woburn, MA.


Responsibilities will include the development of multimedia training materials using PowerPoint, Adobe Captivate and/or other related tools; for Operations and Maintenance training courses, including but not limited to the following subject matter: system functional theory, operations, preventative and corrective maintenance, schematics, and illustrated parts breakdowns from compiled engineering technical reports, drawings, and parts lists. The individual will also participate in customer conferences and peer reviews to ensure that training materials meet customer needs and contract requirements.

The individual will be expected to lead training conduct sessions with end users in the United States and abroad. Travel for this role may average up to 25% of the time.

The individual may also be expected to perform duties as a technical writer who will participate in the development of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using the Eagle Publishing System (EPS), Arbortext and/or FrameMaker. These duties may also include in IETM validation, customer conferences to ensure manuals conformed to contract requirements, and scheduled peer reviews.

In addition, he/she will assist in the development of illustrations, graphics and flow diagrams to support documentation; support contract deliverable documentation; and coordinate Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure the technical accuracy of the documentation.



This position can be a salary grade G07 or G08 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, education and responsibilities for the position.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating and partnering with subject matter experts
  • 2+ (three) years’ professional experience developing written content
  • Related experience in logistics support, system fielding and implementation or life cycle management.
  • Experience with the development of training materials and/or technical documentation
  • Currently hold or be able to obtain a SECRET (or higher) security clearance.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Enhanced Automated Graphical Logistics Environment (EAGLE) and/or Eagle Publishing System (EPS)
  • Experience with Adobe FrameMaker and/or Illustrator
  • Experience with Adobe Captivate
  • Experience with Ngrain Producer Pro, Autodesk 3ds Max, and Okino PolyTrans
  • Experience leading and/or conducting training sessions
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and engineering drawings
  • Experience with the development of technical documentation
  • Experience in writing to military specifications
  • Experience in developing Class 3, Class 4 and/or Class 5 IETMs
  • Experience with XML and/or S-1000D authoring
  • XML Schema Development
  • Experience with PTC Arbortext.
  • Experience with RADAR and related technologies
  • Experience with Earned Value Management
  • Experience as a BOE Developer
  • Experience with Adobe Create Suite, Iso-draw, or CAD
  • Experience with HTML authoring
  • Prior military service is a plus

Required Education
BS/BA in English, Journalism, Technical Writing or a major related to this job description. 8+ years of applicable professional experience in lieu of a BS/BA
