Systems Engineer T2 (Unix / Linux)

Job Description

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting end to end computer processing systems, integrating new systems, and participating in general facilities maintenance activities on site. Additionally, as the enterprise matures, the candidate will participate in design and implementation of new capabilities to monitor, maintain, and support the mission such as Change/Baseline Management processes and tools, Health and Status monitoring and reporting, and contributing to the evolution of the enterprise. As part of the team, the Systems Engineer may be required to learn and occasionally contribute on a variety of tasks outside of the typical engineering scope such as inventory, shipping and handling, and other administrative tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Provide Operations and Maintenance support for multiple scientific/engineering/DSP systems

•Provide Development support for commercial and custom hardware and software

•Investigate and perform performance tuning, resource optimization, and system upgrades

•Perform system configuration and monitoring to improve / maintain operational capabilities

•Assist in design and implementation of expanded or novel capabilities with legacy enterprise systems

•Consistently profile and provision servers, workstations, and appliances for multiple platforms

•Maintain and contribute documentation in the CM/Knowledge Base

•Responsibilities occasionally require working evenings or weekends

Required Qualifications:

•B.S. degree or equivalent and 5 to 7 years of related experience

•Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar

•Good working knowledge of Red Hat Linux administration and troubleshooting

•Comfortable with at least one Linux-oriented scripting language (bash, python, perl, etc)

•Experience with modern Configuration Management and Baseline Management practices

•Experience with computer networking and network architecture principles

•Familiarity with typical network protocols and standards (TCP/IP, HTTP/S, SSH, physical cabling, etc)

•Experience managing systems throughout complete lifecycle

•TS/SCI clearance

Desired Qualifications:

•Background in Operations & Maintenance

•Experience with Modernization/Recapitalization of legacy Enterprise Linux systems

•Familiarity with modern configuration/orchestration tools (Puppet, Ansible, Chef, etc)

•Comfortable with common virtualization technologies

•Familiarity with common Cisco network equipment

•Strong documentation skills

•Thorough knowledge of security requirements for classified environments

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
