Systems Engineer

Optensity is a small business specializing in software engineering and product development with offices in Northern Virginia and Massachusetts. We are actively looking for an individual with Systems Engineering and Software Development skills to join our Virginia technical team.   As a member of Optensity, you will have the ability to support many aspects of the company, from technical project work to business development to internal R&D.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work with government client and prime contractor by managing user stories in our agile development environment
  • Investigate and design engineering solutions for large government R&D effort
  • Provide user briefings on proposed designs/architecture and CONOPS
  • Ability to develop “apps” on-site using Optensity’s software platform, AppSymphony

Required Qualifications:

  • Direct experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience using build/deploy/version control tools (maven, git, Jenkins and TestNG)
  • Working knowledge of scripting/programming languages (python or Bash)
  • Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) services design and configuration
  • Enterprise Messaging services (ActiveMQ or Kafka)
  • Log / Event Management services (Splunk)
  • Web application configuration and management (Tomcat)

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Development experience using Java, JavaScript, or C#
  • Solid grasp of HTML5, CSS3 and building responsive web applications with bootstrap
  • Experience with npm/yarn/bower for managing web application dependencies
  • Knowledge of karma for writing user interface tests
  • Experience with Ionic/Cordova for mobile application development
  • Cloud Automation system design and implementation
  • Distributed High Availability techniques

Education and Experience:

Requires BS in Engineering (or a related discipline) and 5+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 3+ years of prior relevant experience.
