Systems Engineer, Sr Principal (Mission Integration Lead)

SAIC the sole provider of the Remote Sensing (RS) Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team in El Segundo, CA has an immediate need for a Systems Engineer Sr. Principle (Mission Integration Lead) with mission integration leadership experience in Department of Defense (DoD) space-based and ground systems. Candidate will provide systems engineering and integration expertise in support of the Space and Missile Systems Center’s (SMC) Environmental Monitoring (EM) and Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) programs.  Candidate will lead mission integration efforts to provide end-to-end Enterprise systems integration support for EM and OPIR space and ground segments to insure requirements, interfaces, and concepts of operations (CONOPS) are captured and documented to insure delivery of critical mission capabilities. Candidate should have experience with system acquisition, systems engineering lifecycle, architecture, operations concepts, requirements and interface development and maturation for space and ground systems. 

Major duties of the position include:

 

  • Maturing the OPIR System Integration Plan and associated risk reduction and integration and test events.

  • Leading architecture, operations concept, requirements, and interface control documentation support for integration of space vehicle and ground systems under development.

  • Leading interface trade studies in collaboration with development, operations, and sustainment stakeholders to evaluate and optimize interfaces in support of operational requirements.

  • Leading and ensuring effective integration of space, ground, operations, and sustainment activities and products; hardware and software, and all other aspects of systems and organizations across the SMC Enterprise.

  • Evaluating contractor architectures, operations concepts, specifications and interface products for completeness and suitability.  

  • Managing interdependencies, identifying disconnects, between current and future architectures, requirements, and interfaces, and resolving system issues.

  • Supporting the customer in defining, capturing, and maintaining the technical, schedule, and cost risks throughout the system lifecycle and developing risk mitigation courses of action and assessing impacts of risks and proposed changes.

  • Collaborating with prime contractors, other team contractors, government civilians, members of the U.S. Air Force, and external mission stakeholders.

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Math, Science or Engineering with 15+ Years of demonstrated system engineering and integration experience with space, ground, operations and sustainment segments of DoD or NRO programs with a proven delivery record or a Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Science or Engineering with 17+ Years of demonstrated experience.
  • Extremely motivated individual who is a self-starter and a team player, comfortable with matrixed organizations and leading through influence across multiple organizations.
  • Experience working across space and ground segment organizations to coordinate and identify system integration requirements, schedules and giver-receivers that insure end-to-end mission performance requirements are met.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in an acquisition environment, with space and/or ground systems.
  • Experience with ground system requirements and interface management, risk management, change boards and change board environment.
  • Experience providing technical analyses, architecture trade-studies, and program management support to a government customer.
  • Proactive engineer who takes the initiative to identify, own and solve customer problems.
  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams.

Desired Qualifications

 
  • OPIR and EM (particularly Space Based Environmental Monitoring) Mission experience is highly desirable.
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience using Sparx Enterprise Architect or other comparable tools.
  • Experience working under an agile planning construct
