Systems Engineer (Linux)

What You’ll Get to Do:

As a Systems Engineer, you must possess multifaceted knowledge of Project Integration & Platform Engineering, including storage and networking concepts, to join our talented group of Developers, PMs, and Mission Partners.  This is a fast-paced mission critical environment, which introduces cutting-edge technologies.  You must be a quick learner and a team player.  You will also, participate and periodically work on other systems/small tasking’s, as assigned to support the CDI/APPS Portfolio IT modernization efforts.

This role includes the following duties:

  • Provide system design, engineering, and operational support to Enclave infrastructure management services, virtualization and DevOps services, Platform baseline management, including server operating systems, Infrastructure projects in support of Tenant requirements, upkeep of infrastructure documentation, system schematics and platform operations guide, and actively planning and implementing customer’s continuous evaluation requirements.
  • Design, evaluate, recommend, install, test, and maintain all aspects of systems virtualization, including custom host profiles and hardened VM templates.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate server hardware problems and equipment outages in a timely manner using hardware and software support tools.
  • Follow policies set forth by Customer’s Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery regulations and institute periodic Continuity of Operations exercises for Sponsor’s Enclave at a recurring interval
  • Manage and track their tasks using the sponsor’s established Agile methodology

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate experience with the Agile framework and full life-cycle software development
  • Demonstrate experience with Domain Controllers, DNS, DHCP, and Firewalls
  • Demonstrate experience with UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems
  • Demonstrate experience with audit and monitoring tools, such as Splunk, Icinga2, and Nagios
  • Demonstrate experience with virtual environment management platforms, including Citrix and Hyper-V
  • Demonstrate familiarity with scripting tools and concepts, including PowerShell, Stash, and Ansible
  • Demonstrate an understanding of networking and core Internet Protocols, such as TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, and routing in distributed networks
  • Demonstrate experience with engineering solutions for Citrix XenApp and Secure Browser
  • Demonstrate experience with systems health monitoring to include identification of resource (CPU, Memory, Network, and Storage) bottlenecks, and developing remediation to address root cause for both Windows and Linux systems
  • Hands-on experience with storage appliance configuration, planning, and maintenance

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Ability to research the most appropriate implementation approach for detailed system design and demonstrate Sponsor experience with hands-on implementation and documentation of these solutions to include hardware and software applications, and infrastructure services
  • Exhibit working knowledge of Sponsor’s Enterprise service providers and evidence of coordination with these entities to deliver Enclave solutions
  • Familiarity with server-side solutions, such as Apache, Tomcat, Glassfish, IIS, and WebLogic
  • Demonstrate experience with systems vulnerability remediation activities to include applying missing patches, disabling weak ciphers, installing sponsor-approved PKI certificates, disabling weak protocols, and providing evidence to close out existing POAM’s.
  • Demonstrate experience with performance tuning of infrastructure components, such as operating systems, application servers, or databases
  • Demonstrate experience performing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS Linux system, and Windows administration, including user/group account management, file & directory administration, firewall modification, sudoers file modification, and configuration of SSH, NTP, DNS, NFS, and NIC
  • Demonstrate experience with participating in sponsor’s accreditation activities to achieve successful Authorization to Operate (ATO) to include developing content for Body of Evidence (BoE) artifacts (i.e. SSP CONOPS, SSP Questionnaire)
  • Demonstrate experience implementing and/or configuring encryption in-transit and at-rest to meet Sponsor’s security requirements


Candidate must have one of the following:

  • 12 Years of job related experience and High School/GED diploma
  • 10 Years of job related experience and Associate degree
  • 8 Years of job related experience and Bachelor’s degree
  • 6 Years of job related experience and Master’s degree
  • 4 Years of job related experience and Doctorate

Work Hours:  Core Hours 9:00a.m. - 3:00p.m. (Rotational Pager Duty)
