Systems Engineer - FRACAS / RAM

The Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLED) is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user.

The Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) & Failure Reporting, Analysis, Corrective Action System (FRACAS) Engineering Section is responsible for all aspects of RAM & FRACAS activity within the Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) business unit. In this role the person will provide RAM & FRACAS consultation and required analyses in support of Missile Defense Systems.

This position will be located in either Andover Woburn, MA.

The RAM/FRACAS Engineer ensures performance compliance of both customer and internal requirements.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Support the FRACAS Process by Lead Failure Investigations and working closely with team members on identifying root cause and corrective actions.
  • Perform reliability analyses, including but not limited trade-off studies, performance assessments (MTBF, Ao), Reliability Predictions, Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA)
Required Skills:
  • Two (2)+ years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience with: Reliability Analyses, Failure Analysis (or experience with the areas of RAM/FRACAS)
Desired Skills:
  • Strong communication skills; Ability to present to diverse audiences
  • Ability & desire to work in large teams.
  • Active Secret Clearance or eligibility to obtain Secret Clearance
  • Assessing RAM performance (MTBF, MTBCF, Ao)
  • Conducting data analysis and trending
  • Defining / allocating RAM requirements
  • Performing Reliability Predictions
  • Performing Failure Modes Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Perform RAM trade-off analyses
  • Experience assessing RAM performance of fielded equipment.
  • Certification in the area of Reliability, Availability and Maintainability.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • Master of Science in Engineering Degree
Required Education:

BS/BA in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) or other technical discipline. 8+ years of applicable experience in Lieu of BS/BA (2 years of applicable experience equals 1 year of College)
