Systems Engineer - FAA

Description

SAIC is seeking high-performing Systems Engineers to support the FAA. The ideal candidate would understand the FAA AJM business goals, and have the desire and passion for successful evolution of programs from initial requirements definition and business case, request for proposals and proposal evaluation, to implementation and delivery of programs to the field. The Systems Engineer will have any of the following responsibilities:

· High Level Engineering Activities: Manage and track technical and program requirements; provide technical assistance in planning, facility, and system development/integration activities; review facility documentation for the design, integration, and testing of system modifications; provide Information Systems Security expertise; provide threat assessments, vulnerability assessments, perform risk analyses, and provide risk mitigation recommendations; perform system safety assessment, analysis, tracking and reporting; provide recommendations regarding adoption of the commercial or military aviation practices and tools within FAA; perform logistics engineering activities; provide possible traffic pictures; provide support for Reduced Oceanic Separation.

· Concept Definition and Requirements Development:Monitor technical performance measures; construct proof-of-concept models, prototypes, and/or initial capabilities of NextGen systems; perform target level-of-safety assessments and collision risk modeling and development of separation standards analyses; provide technical input for modifications to ICAO and FAA standards and procedures; assess 1090 MHz RF impact on current and future surveillance infrastructure; perform technical analyses related to hardware/software design, system interfaces, software logic, and hardware/ software maintenance and address alternatives to resolve any issues and recommend alternative design features; perform Human Factors (HF)-related compliance reviews; support the development of industry and Government standards; assess the applicability of new and innovative tools and procedures; develop analysis and recommendations for concepts and requirements

· System Design and Development: Develop system designs to reflect system requirements; monitor technical performance measures; develop hardware and software systems; perform avionics equipment upgrades; assess 1090 MHz RF impact on current and future surveillance infrastructure; perform technical analyses related to hardware/software design, system interfaces, software logic, and hardware/software maintenance and address alternatives to resolve any issues and recommend alternative design features; support the development of industry and Government standards

· Integration and Test: Perform separation standards analysis; participate in separation standards working groups; develop system test plans; evaluate critical and essential services implementations; monitor technical performance measures; monitor compliance with critical and essential services; perform target level-of-safety assessments and collision risk modeling and development of separation standards analyses; perform avionics equipment upgrades; provide recommendations on configuration management issues

· Deployment and In Service Management: Monitor technical performance measures; monitor compliance with critical and essential services; perform avionics equipment upgrades; support the design and implementation of interfaces between and among NAS facilities; provide recommendations on configuration management issues

In supporting these functions, the systems engineer will be expected to:

Apply comprehensive system engineering principles and best practices to support the investigation, analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, testing, and evaluation of NAS equipment and procedures.
Review and prepare engineering and technical analysis reports, and other technical and safety documentation.
Draft system/safety project plans, justifications, guidelines, and controls. Recommend development and design changes to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
Provides expertise in the transition of legacy systems to modernized systems.
Have experience working with FAA PMO processes and supporting acquisition inputs to define contractor engineering performance.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and five+ years of experience.
  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer in the FAA/AMS environment
  • Proven knowledge and experience in FAA NAS and NextGen programs
  • Ability to successfully interact and provide technical and acquisition guidance to senior level FAA managers and engineers
  • Ability to work independently to complete complex technical tasks
  • Experience working within cross-functional teams (acquisition, investment, program management, development contractors, subcontractors)
  • Experience performing technical risk analysis and mitigation planning
  • Preparing and briefing technical presentations at informal and formal meetings
  • Experience with the FAA systems engineering, configuration management and change processes
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Desired Qualifications

 

  • Proven working experience in development and management of AMS RFPs/SIRs, system specifications, Interface Requirements, requirements management, quality management, system safety and RMA engineering
