Systems Development Engineer

Systems Development Engineer

Job ID: 487589 | Amazon Web Services, Inc.

DESCRIPTION

AWS Lambda is changing the way that companies big and small think about computing in the cloud. Lambda functions offer customer a "serverless" way to create applications, an approach that let's customers turn business logic and application code into scalable, fault-tolerant production systems without requiring every developer to become an expert in distributed systems, deployment technologies, and infrastructure management.

The Seattle-based AWS Lambda team is growing rapidly and is looking for talented senior-level candidates who can help us create the massive scale and powerful new programming paradigms that our customers need to be successful. If you're excited by cloud computing, want to help lead from the innovative edge, and have a deep mastery of languages, distributed system design, and performance, then join us in making Lambda the most successful computing platform on the planet!

Code increasingly lives in one of two places: the public cloud and devices. Our job is to remove infrastructure, scaling, and reliability as impediments to productivity, so developers can go from concept to customer success without stopping along the way to worry about deployment, capacity, and getting the latest OS patches installed. We want to make it easier than ever for developers to build applications and services using AWS by streamlining the challenges of code execution without worrying about infrastructure. Are you looking for distributed system technology that starts where textbook algorithms and conventional approaches run out of steam? Want a green field opportunity to build a planet-spanning cloud compute service with a successful company and ecosystem around you? Love the idea of extending language features like futures and frameworks like Hadoop to our cloud function paradigm? Then come help us build them!

What does it take to succeed in this role? You need to be creative, responsible, and able to dig deep into emerging technologies. Willing to read research papers but also move quickly to turn code into customer solutions. Excited (and a little frightened) by the scale at which we work. A roll-up-your-sleeves type. Able to think about business opportunities, operational issues, and architectural diagrams in the course of a single conversation. Intellectually curious and dedicated to turning developers into raving fans. Someone who makes the team room both productive and fun to work in. Excited to learn from others while bringing your own novel capabilities and perspectives.

Together, we’ll deliver the next generation of industry-leading compute features and help every business from the smallest startups to the largest enterprises run their code in the cloud without the burden of infrastructure and without having to worry about the challenges of scale (that's our job). We’ll shape not just our own products, but the direction of the industry . Come help us change the world!
