As the Lead Systems Administrator, you will support the Defense Civilian Personal Data System is a multifunction, web-based civilian HR information management and transaction processing system designed to: improve and simplify personnel transaction processing; the delivery of personnel services; and the retrieval of timely civilian workforce information.  The system supports over 800,000 civilian employee records (appropriated fund, non-appropriated fund, National Guard, and local nationals), and 1.5 million position records.  DCPDS is a global system supporting users in Asia, the Pacific, Europe and North America on a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week basis.  DCPDS uses a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) product (Oracle HR) –  customized for the Federal and Defense environments.

More About the Role:

As the Lead Systems Administrator, you will lead systems administration support for DCPDS.  Your responsibilities will include design, support and management of development, test and production systems (Servers, DNS, Domain Controllers. Etc.).  This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems, Virtual Machines and supporting software (Oracle EBS etc.). You  will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. You will also mentor and provide guidance to more junior Systems Administrators and System Engineers.  You will direct influence and provide input to long and short-range planning of technology refresh initiatives and associated projects.       

This position requires an individual who is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in all phases of systems administration including systems architecture design, implementation and sustainment. Individual must possess strong strategic decision-making skills, superior leadership abilities, and excellent team building skills.  Must have the vision to understand the customer’s infrastructure requirements, and can apply current state methods and techniques (to include people, process and technology) to solve the problems at minimum risk to the customer and CACI.  Individual must have large scale systems integration experience.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Establish and maintain user accounts, assigns file permissions and establishes password and account policies; installs, upgrades, configures, tests, maintains and supports operating system software across environments including Production. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system hardware, software, database, technology and communications problems.
  • Installs, configures and tests software packages and web servers.
  • Install and configure automation and monitoring tools
  • Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations on a routine basis
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations
  • Design, configure and test computer hardware, networking software, and operating system software
  • Maintain and develop administrative and software deployment utilities
  • Analyze vulnerability scan reports, assess security threats, and assist team members in developing remediation strategies.  Provide updates on remediation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with security regulations, policies and requirements
  • Develop Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M’s) associated with identified security vulnerabilities

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or other technically relevant degree from an accredited university.  Minimum of 8 years’ experience with installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting COTS applications on current and legacy Linux OS, servers and desktops in large complex environments for Federal Government clients.   

  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in multiple Linux variants (preferably RHEL) and other Unix based operating systems (Solaris, etc.) in a large-scale environment
  • Broad exposure to local and remote data center management
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g. Oracle Enterprise Manager, Splunk, SolarWinds … etc.)
  • Experience with security concepts including firewall configurations, server configurations, and desktop client applications
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Storage Systems, Fiber Channel Switching, SAN, NAS and NFS/CIFS, and Data Replication technologies
  • Understanding of basic and advanced networking concepts and protocols (IP addressing/subnet masks, DHCP, DNS, NTP, etc.) and network diagnostic tools
  • Experience with resolving firewall, network scanning and intrusion detection vulnerabilities
  • Experience working with IP networking, networking protocols and understanding of security related technologies including encryption, IPsec, PKI, VPNs, firewalls, proxy services, DNS, electronic mail and access-lists
  • Demonstrated on-the-job experience with DoD/Federal certification and accreditation policies, specially DoDI8510.01, Risk Management Framework (RMF) for DoD Information Technology and AFI
  • Demonstrated understanding of the support activities and requirements documented in DoDI 8520.02 regarding Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Public Key Enabling that are required to achieve standardized PKI supported capabilities for biometrics, digital signatures, encryption, identification and authentication. 
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring that systems and applications are compliant with DISA’s Application Security Development Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG).
  • Possess active Security+ certifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve network/operating system security issues
  • Ability to interpret vulnerability assessments
  • Ability to administer the operations of a security infrastructure
  • Experience implementing in accordance with the following Federal Laws, Regulations and Policies – FISMA, NIST RMF

These Skills Would Be Nice to Have:

  • Experience administering systems within a DISA hosted environment
  • Experience administering COTS and/or ERP systems
  • Experience administering systems that include large Oracle databases
  • Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills
  • Experience with VMWare setup, configuration, operation and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with agile software development
