The ambitious System Engineer / Technical Writer will have a well-rounded technical background, ideally in various networking protocols and data flows.  The Technical Writer will conduct system surveys, collaborate, design, and create documentation and gather system artifacts.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of existing project documentation, identifying flaws, gaps, and inefficiencies.  These recommended system changes will facilitate in the re-design process based on feedback from the software engineers.   The successful candidate will be dedicated full-time to creating and sustaining new and existing project documentation and manuals in a clear and concise manner.  In addition, to these duties the Technical Writer will be called upon to explain complex information to the technical staff, leadership, customer, and stakeholders.

General duties:

  • Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit operational procedures, diagrams, and manuals using Atlassian product suite (Jira, Confluence, Service Desk, Gliffy)
  • Research, develop, and document technical design specifications for wide-range FOSS software solutions
  • Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation to be consumed by a large audience
  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of content style/format
  • Manage updates and revisions to technical literature as required
Required Skills Required Experience
  • 4+ years of technical writing or relevant role experience implementing complex documentation practices within software development environment
  • 2+ years of experience using Linux OS, understanding of terminology used in order to provide related documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Understanding of AGILE software development methodologies and standard software development tool suites
  • Background working with FOSS-centric eco-system, to include relevant product space knowledge involving stream/batch data processing and analytic frameworks
  • Fundamental understanding of Cloud and HPC architecture environments to include terminology, practices, and configurations used
  • Understanding of fast-paced software development lifecycle to include unit and integration testing, bug reporting, and production software support leveraging a DevOps mode
  • An active TS/SCI security clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph is required
