System Architect

Job Description

The System Architect will be responsible for the design, testing, implementation, configuration validation, operation, maintenance, administration, management, backup, and recovery of Government IT infrastructure systems, to include servers and storage devices, with an overarching system engineering function used to guide and direct the overall value and effectiveness of the system. Projects may consist of designing, building and deploying of new networks and infrastructure components such as databases, servers of many types, network storage devices, other network components, and desktops/workstations, as well as the removal of existing network features and infrastructure components. Projects may include features, which require the installation and removal of hardware such as switches, servers and routers, databases, servers of many types, storage devices, desktops/workstations and installation and un-installation of infrastructure components.

Candidate must be able to obtain an DHS EOD suitability clearance.

Engineering projects include, but are not limited to, tasks such as the following:

  • E-mail services.
  • File share services.
  • Active Directory and related Microsoft services.
  • Storage area network services.
  • Backup and archive technologies.
  • Management, configuration and utility servers.
  • Network configuration and planning – switch, router and firewalls.
  • Client platform designs including software images and hardware configurations.
  • New infrastructure designs and user rollout support (includes identification of LAN
  • closet placement, power requirements and cabling requirements).
  • Network and server enhancements based on recommended best practices, and technical assessments.
  • Network assessments based on modifications, changes or moving equipment.
  • Assessing capacity and latency issues for network configurations.
  • Assessing network connectivity and access approaches.
  • Performing Tier 2 and/or Tier 3 Help Desk tasks as required.

Familiarity with the following technologies and products is preferred:

  • Hyperconverge infrastructure preferably NUTANIX
  • VDI/Citrix
  • Fortinet firewalls
  • Dell switches

Systems Architects shall be responsible for providing network engineering support, to include

but not limited to:

  • Network architecture/accreditation.
  • Equipment Rack/Cabinet installation.
  • Switches (install/move).
  • Servers (install/move).
  • Routers (install/move).
  • UPS/PDU (install/move).
  • Circuit configuration/turn-up.
  • A-LAN installation/configuration.
  • ICE IRMNET installation/configuration.
  • Security camera/monitor installation.
  • Desktop/Polycom phone installation.
  • PC Imaging/Deployment (and accessories: mouse, keyboard, speakers, docking station,
  • and software installation).
  • SMART Board installation (excluding physical mounting to a wall unit).
  • Equipment Testing.
  • Transition to O&M.
  • Coordination with external service providers (Cable plant, CATV, VTC, Voice Systems, etc.) on the design and implementation of IT solutions which are not covered in the scope of work.
  • attend all meetings as directed by the FPS COR and contribute to specific technical working groups, change control boards and change management boards set up to address engineering operations and issues within the agency and other Government agencies. The Contractor shall structure the technical requirements/knowledge-base on the current needs of DHS.

This is a customer facing position and as such this candidate must have the ability to directly interact with clients, customers and vendors to include Executive level

  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the execution of projects
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation

    Education: Master’s degree in the sciences or business, or Industry equivalent experience.

    Experience: 10+ years
