System Administrator located in Sasebo, Japan

Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network engineers. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space.

Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. 

Provide Infrastructure support including responding to trouble calls, performing break-fix troubleshooting and analysis of problems and associated repair activities to return equipment, system or network to normal operational status.

Perform or assist with new installations and / or life cycle upgrades for shipboard ADP /IT networks and equipment; provide shipboard training to crew members as necessary for LAN and IT Equipment operation.

Interface and coordinate daily and planned activities with customer representatives, shipboard personnel, other contractors providing specialized LAN or network communications support, prepare and provide daily work reports, and respond to queries for ad hoc data and network configuration and inventory reports.

Provide support for COMPOSE networks, to include routers and switches, ADNS, CENTRIXS, GCCS-M, and other MSC specific systems on board. Support multiple operating systems including Windows Server 2003, 2000, 2008; ESX 4, Unix, Linux RedHat, Alcatel AOS, and Cisco IOS. 

Provide hardware support to most any type of hardware on board. Provide support to Comms officers & LAN Admins as well as training on above systems.

Candidate MUST Have:  

  • 7 Years Work Experience Ability to and willingness to travel 50 - 70%
  • Secret Clearance (interim accepted) 
  • IAT-II minimum IAWF (DoD 8570-01.M), e.g. Security + CE Certification
