Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to support the Systems Architecture Design and Integration Directorate (SADID) in Andover. The Integrated Air and Missile Defense Systems (IAMDS) Department supports IDS by providing world class Weapon Systems Engineering. Domain Expertise includes Radar Systems, Effector Systems, Battle Management, Command and Control, Communications, Network Design, Battlespace Integration and Interoperability for Domestic and International Customers.

Job Description:

This position will directly interface with the USG customer. The Chief Engineer dual reports to the Sweden Program Manager and European Programs Chief Engineer, and directly oversees all aspects of engineering execution on Sweden Patriot program’s contracts. The Chief Engineer is the program’s engineering leadership point of contact and is responsible for the engineering execution of an entire program, overseeing all technical, schedule, and financial aspects.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Partnering with USG customer, Swedish End User, and internal stakeholders to determine program technical priorities
  • Continually assess system performance and supportability, and recommend improvements to manage risk and increase operational efficiency
  • Communicating technical status to internal and external stakeholders
  • Reviewing and approving changes to the technical baselines via CCB
  • Establish and manage a program vision, strategy and goals to align the Program with the Customer and facilitate conflict resolution
  • Ensure technical integrity and engineering execution across all IPTs, CPTs, and disciplines within the Program
  • Program technical POC with the customer senior technical counterparts
  • Authority to manage all Engineering related activities across the program. Authority over and direct management of the lead engineers to ensure that the overall system design is optimized to meet the required performance within the project constraints.
  • International travel is required.


This position can be a Salary Grade G9/G10 based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience, including prior experience in a technical leadership role and including experience across the development lifecycle.
  • Experience performing and/or managing software and systems development programs across multiple environments
  • Working knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines, Integrated Product Development System (IPDS) and Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • Demonstrated experience with Gate Reviews
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills
  • Proven ability to partner with senior leaders and influence the decision making process. Collaborate across the organization and operate effectively within a matrix environment by resolving conflict and influencing others
  • Experience working with suppliers in technical and/or programmatic oversight role
  • Experience in all phases of program lifecycle
  • Experience in Risk and Opportunity management
  • Current Secret Security Clearance required or ability to obtain a clearance
Desired Skills:
  • Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL) or Program Management experience
  • Actively engages, drives change to achieve execution excellence and solve critical issues
  • Demonstrated experience as a change agent, able to energize organizations to achieve beyond expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with senior levels of leadership effectively – including customer, Raytheon, teammates, and suppliers
  • Exceptional judgment and decision-making in dynamic and complex environments
  • Experience facilitating cross organizational solutions in response to diverse objectives
  • Required Education (including Major):
    Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, Science or related discipline
