Raytheon Missile Systems showcases the talented professionals, cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions that ensure the success of our customers’ missions worldwide. Raytheon is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, homeland security and other government markets throughout the world. With a history of innovation spanning over 90 years, Raytheon provides state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing; effects; and command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a broad range of mission support services.

Tool Engineering is a department that develops custom mechanical solutions to support manufacturing and assembly throughout the product lifecycle. The Tool Engineering department strives to incorporate safe and error-proofed solutions into the factory. As a Structural Analyst for the Tool Engineering department, the primary role will be to assess the structural integrity of assembly tooling such as below-the-hook (BTH) lifting devices and material handling equipment (MHE), using 3D finite element analysis (FEA) simulation tools as well as classical hand analysis methods.

The qualified candidate will be responsible for performing detailed linear static FEA on mechanical parts and assemblies (primarily composed of: aluminum, steel, stainless, and plastics), interpret the results, and provide recommendations. Additionally, the candidate will lead structural analysis tasks, as well as provide guidance to more junior Engineers. The analyses will cover a wide range of difficult problems, requiring solutions that are imaginative, thorough, and consistent with organization objectives. The selected candidate will be expected to define the scope and level of analysis required to meet required objectives and will be held accountable for completing the work within the agreed upon cost and schedule. The candidate will be expected to present their work for peer reviews and to be a peer reviewer for other engineers’ work.

  • Strong CAD skills and FEA proficiency with geometry preparation, contacts, meshing, boundary conditions, model setup/debug, and assessment of margins of safety.
  • Strong analytical skills in statics, with a solid background in structural engineering topics such as free body diagrams and strength of materials.
  • Ability to effectively work on multiple tasks with changing priorities and interruptions.
  • Strong team and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication

  • 3+ years of experience in structural analysis including finite element modeling and working from CAD geometries
  • Experience performing hand calculations based on fundamental equations.
  • Experience investigating and analyzing requirements, and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience preparing detailed technical presentations/reports, and interface with internal customers to deliver status, updates, analysis results, and design/material recommendations.

  • Currently possess and active or is eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance

  • Experience with ANSYS
  • Experience with CREO (Pro-E)
  • Experience with Mathcad
  • Experience with advanced FEA skills, dynamic analysis, non-linear analysis, or failure modes such as fatigue and buckling.
  • Advanced degree or concentration in structural analysis or mechanics of materials
  • Tool Design Experience
  • GD&T Experience

This position involves support of fast pace projects, where analysis has a strong impact on design and safety validation. Must be able to effectively work with cross functional teams to understand the design, perform analysis, and present results and recommendations.
BS Engineering: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Industrial Technology. Coursework in structural analysis or mechanics of materials is a plus.
