Staff Physicist 2

The Engineering Science Division of ARA is seeking a Staff Physicist 2 to join our progressive and passionate team. The qualified applicant will have a BS degree in Physics with a focus on x-ray interactions and computed tomography. The qualified applicant must have five to seven years of related experience. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance and a DHS Suitability Clearance.

Our work focuses on the activities of explosive characterization and synthesis, use of bulk explosives to acquire data on detection equipment, and the handling and dissemination of data acquired in all of these activities. The explosives to be used include military, commercial and HMEs.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • BS with five to seven years of related experience
  • Experience operating analytical x-ray and computed tomography equipment
  • Experience with MATLAB, Mathematica or comparable software
  • Experience developing programs/scripts for the analysis of data
  • Experience operating and maintaining advanced analytical instruments
  • Experience troubleshooting instruments with limited guidance from manufacturers
  • Experience handling hazardous and reactive materials safely
  • Strong Microsoft office skills

Desired Education, Skills and Experience:

  • MS in physics or closely related field
  • Ability to effectively present scientific information to peers
  • Familiarity with illicit material detection; narcotics, explosives, chemical weapons (CW), etc.
  • Familiarity with Transportation Security Administration (TSA),Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL), and/or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) goals and missions
Experience Required
  • 5 - 7 years: Related Experience
Education Required
  • Bachelor of Science or better in Physics or related field
