Staff Engineer Supplier Quality

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Staff Supplier Quality Engineerto join our team in Baltimore, MD.

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be supporting a critical development program within the Airborne C4ISR division.

The Supplier Quality Engineer will spend time developing and leading program assessments to determine supplier quality risk, as well as develop effective and affordable risk mitigation plans. Will assure quality, scalability, risk management, safety, reliability and maintainability of suppliers in accordance with contractual requirements. Will also assess program performance and risks related to supplier output, and determine resources to ensure mission assurance requirements are met. Responsibility will also include developing Supplier Quality budgets for program proposals and monitoring active budgets.

The Supplier Quality Engineer provides solutions which support Quality Management System (QMS) functions on Department of Defense (DOD) hardware engineering, development, test, integration, and production programs. Utilize customer and NGMS policies and procedures, such as ISO 9001/AS9100, to help realize those solutions.

Serve as an advisor to senior Mission Assurance and Program Management on QMS issues that arise and represent Supplier Quality in cross-discipline teams to resolve issues in the Business Unit.

Ensures Supplier Quality team support throughout the development, review, delivery, and maintenance cycles for supplier deliverables, internal plans and Readiness Reviews. Participates with supplier in design review providing feedback on designs to engineering/manufacturing personnel. Hands-on experience developing and reviewing plans and processes associated with AS9100.

Works with the MA team and program management team to define, gather, evaluate, and effectively present quality metrics to assist with program efficiency, effectiveness, and continuous improvement. Ability to coordinate/collaborate with external quality teams in data gathering, problem solving, risk mitigation, and root cause corrective action.

Ability to mentor younger Mission Assurance engineering team. Work collaboratively with others in Mission Assurance to define future concepts and principles to be followed by Mission Assurance Engineers.

Experience providing root cause analysis and presenting key metrics to Quality and Program leadership. Attention to detail coupled with the ability to quickly learn, assess, and apply new processes/procedures.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related STEM/Technical discipline and 14+ years of related experience (12+ years with a Master's, and 9+ years with a PHD

  • 5+ Years' experience with AS9100/ISO9001 Quality Management experience

  • Solid written and verbal interpersonal, communication skills and confidence to brief senior management with solid foundation in Mission Assurance applications.

  • Six Sigma trained/certified or knowledge of statistical analysis methods and techniques.

  • Active Secret clearance, US citizenship required.

  • Experience in working in development, low rate, and full rate production environments

  • Experience with developing supplier Manufacturing Readiness Assessments

  • Ability to effectively coordinate with the supply base during the design phase of the program

  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams to resolve problems or issues

  • Understanding of Earned Value Management System (EVMS)

  • Have experience in quality planning

  • SAP knowledge

  • Experience working with electrical or mechanical design requirements and specifications.

  • Ability to identify improvement area and act with little to no supervision.

  • Ability to work an issue with very little background information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering

  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt

  • Excellent data analysis skills using, Mini Tab, Excel or similar

  • Strong presentation & communication skills
