Staff Engineer Optical

AOA Xinetics (AOX), a Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) strategic business unit, is currently seeking an Optical Engineer 5 at our East Hartford, CT location. The Optical Engineer will work within interdisciplinary teams to develop novel and innovative solutions to advanced technical problems.

Responsibilities will include the development of laboratory prototypes, the evaluation of their feasibility, the identification of their performance limitations, and the resolution of their technical risks. The successful candidate will combine skills developing and performing experimental measurements with the ability to model and analyze a variety of physical phenomenon.

This work will also involve the development of novel measurement methods that may cut across disciplines. The candidate will be expected to lead engineers and technicians in the pursuit of these goals, will work with customers on product definition, and will support proposal teams. Knowledge gained during the research and development phases will be used to support the rapid transfer of advanced technology solutions into manufacturing.

Basic Qualifications:

PhD in Optics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering with at least four years of experience working in a similar role.

US Citizenship is a bona fide requirement as applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must possess or be able to obtain a SSBI security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should possess skills required to design, model, analyze, and test optical and electro-optical systems and components, including sensors, lasers, fiber-optics, and photonics components.

They should be proficient in planning and executing research and development tasks involving physical optics and geometric optics, lasers, laser characteristics, and the interaction and control of light with matter.

They should be familiar with and have hands-on experience with a broad class of optical test and measurement equipment.
