Staff Cryogenic Mechanical Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Sector is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer Cryogenic and Missile Technologiesto join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead technical volume of proposal efforts for cryocoolers and associated hardware.
  • Lead failure analysis, root cause and corrective action, and troubleshooting investigations for cryocooler manufacturing and test.
  • Responsible design engineer for cryocooler thermal mechanical unit manufacturing and test; determine system-level mechanical requirements for cryocooler hardware.
  • Perform thermal analysis for system- and unit-level cryocooler design.
  • Write cryocooler product line specifications and test procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution and14 years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment; OR Masters of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution and12 years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment

  • Experience withspacecraft cryocooler systems design and development
  • Candidate must have and be able to maintain an U.S. Government SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with fluid componentsand spacecraft thermal analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills in fluid mechanics and thermo-mechanical design with ability to scope or bound thermal and fluid mechanics problems as well as oversee manufacturing operations and unit development/acceptance testing.
  • Proven background in flight hardware design, development, and test practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to be the focal point interface with team members including internal and external customers as well as suppliers.
