Sr Systems Engineer I

IDS Engineering’s Systems Validation, Test and Analysis Directorate (SVTAD) is the central focus for integration, test and validation activities. SVTAD employees provide the expertise to ensure customer success through the development and execution of innovative and comprehensive test, verification, and validation strategies, processes, tools and techniques. SVTAD employees are involved in all aspects of test including: design-for-test, integration, subsystem and component level testing through sell-off of IDS ' most sophisticated systems and technologies.

Opportunities currently exist within SVTAD's Air Defense Systems Department in Andover, Massachusetts. The Air Defense Systems Department (ADS) provides expertise in the integration, validation, and sell off for various air defense programs within IDS. ADS Engineers are involved in all aspects of the Integrated Product Development System (IPDS) cycle. ADS engineers have ownership authority to ensure that individual items are integrated and perform as expected as well as ensuring that the system can be sold off. Most system tests will be conducted in the ADS Department’s HWIL facilities. These facilities include integrated tactical hardware, simulated, and emulated software for data collection to verify the systems capabilities and support the ultimate sell off of the System. ADS supports the PATRIOT and NASAMS family of programs.



Job Description:

The Engineer will perform tasking on the Patriot Integration, Verification, and Validation team as follows:
  • Execute Integration, Verification, and Validation on Radars, Missiles, Command and Control, and integrated Systems Plan technical task and execute, and interface with engineering leads who oversee the technical aspects and successful execution of Patriot Integration, Verification, and Validation activities; determine verification methods or simulation test cases.
  • Author formal integration, verification, and validation planning documentation of integration and test plans, procedures, reports, status reports and other related documentation
  • Execute formal integration and verification events, drives issues to closure, and presents results to task leads and to the customer as required
  • Perform software and hardware incremental integration and verification in a Hardware In the Loop environment
  • Execute the Patriot integration and verification activities using proof of design hardware, production first article hardware, and the associated performance analysis
  • Interface with CPT and IPT leads to coordinate integration, verification, and validation tasks, supporting the investigation of trouble reports related to the integrated tactical equipment
  • Use the approved integration and test processes, metrics, and techniques to accurately assess integration task progress and status

Note: This position can be a Salary GradeG08or Salary GradeG09based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

Required Skills:
  • Four (4)+ years of experience in an engineering role with programming in MATLAB, C, or C++
  • Experience working with integration or test activities for hardware or software products
  • Experience with Systems Engineering Product Development Cycle
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance or obtain an interim clearance prior to starting employment

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with Systems Integration, Verification, and Validation process and/or techniques
  • Experience integrating, verifying, or validating the different elements of the Patriot Air and Missile Defense System
  • Experience in an integrated lab environment and with software/systems integration, verification or validation planning and execution
  • Experience implementing test optimization techniques
  • Strong coordination, organizational and cross-functional collaboration skills, highly motivated “self-starter”, strong analytical skills, detail oriented, and work well within multifaceted teams or independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge with CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration)
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Math or related discipline

Required Education (including Major):
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Math or related discipline.
