Job Description:

The Platform Systems, Airborne Solutions business segment in Indianapolis is looking for multiple levels of software engineers to support application and plug-in development in an Android mobile and/or Windows laptop environment. Software engineers will specifically develop software for the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) or Windows Tactical Assault Kit) WinTAK products in support of Persistent Close Air Support (PCAS) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).

ATAK is a mapping engine developed for the Android Operating System which allows for precision targeting, intelligence on surrounding land formations, navigation, and generalized situational awareness. ATAK is under continuous development by various government laboratories including the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), the Army Research Laboratory (ARL), and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). It enables users to navigate using GPS and National Geospatial Agency (NGA) map data overlaid with real-time situational awareness of ongoing events. The ATAK software represents the surrounding area using the military standard MIL-STD-2525B symbology for iconography and the Cursor on Target data format standard for communication.

The senior software engineer uses and provides creative solutions to complex technical system and software integration problems using modern DevOps/Agile process and tools. The development team will work closely with Systems Engineers to design ideal solutions with the end user and operational needs in mind. Software engineers will work in a DevOps environment employing techniques such as Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Test Driven Development (TDD), Automated Functional Testing, and Pair Programming throughout the software development lifecycle. Developers are required to apply various technologies including C#, C++, Java, XML, XAML, JUnit, and many others.

Responsibilities:


  • Take a narrowly defined or ambiguously defined capability and translate it into a reusable open source software application which interfaces to WinTAK or ATAK using new technology, innovation, and creativity
  • Responsible for performing development, integration, test and documentation duties in a DevOps environment to ensure proper operation of the software platform
  • Be able to work in agile environment using test driven development (TDD) and paired programming.
  • Develop software, tailor reusable software, and integrate software components on virtual machines or target hardware

POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD

Requirements:


  • United States Citizen
  • 4 or more years of software development, integration, and test
  • Programming skills: C#, Java, and/or C++
  • Object Oriented Analysis (OOA) and Object Oriented Design (OOD) skills
  • Knowledge of Android, Windows, and/or Linux operating system concepts
  • Knowledge and understanding of agile software development
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; able to work closely in a multi-discipline team on a daily basis.

Other Requirements (Clearance, Travel & Special Work Environment):


  • Must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
  • May occasionally need to travel for customer meetings, integration, and installations

Desired Skills depending on project and position:


  • ATAK or WinTAK operational or development experience
  • Android development experience
  • UAS and PCAS domain experience
  • Experience and knowledge related to one or more specific technologies or domains:
    • Mission planning
    • Situational Awareness
    • Mapping tools
  • Experience with requirements and use case analysis
  • Experience with scripting (Ruby, Perl, Python, PHP, etc.)
  • Experience with agile (Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban, SAFe, eXtreme Programming, etc)
  • Experience and/or knowledge with DevOps and Continuous Integration
  • Experience and/or knowledge with an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) like Android Studio, Eclipse, MS Visual Studio, and Team Foundation Server
  • Experience and/or knowledge with one or more databases (e.g. SQLite)
  • Experience with Automated Testing and Automated Test Frameworks

Required Education: Bachelor of Science. Preferred majors: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or equivalent technical degree. Equivalent experience accepted
