Sr. Prncpl Engineer Propulsion

Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems is currently seeking an experienced Hypersonics Programs Project Engineer to provide leadership to our Hypersonics Programs team in our Bacchus, UT offices. Position may be located at the Promontory, UT office.
Role desription & Responsibilities:
The Hypersonics Programs Project Engineer is responsible for furthering the development of a component area(s) of the MPBD motor at the Bacchus and Promontory facilities. The assigned component area is TBD based on final team skill set (options are: Insulated Case, Igniter, Loaded Motor, Nozzle, and RMA). A second Hypersonics Programs Project Engineer is responsible for the integration, test plan, and execution of static test motors for MPBD and HTBD.
Overall responsibility: Definition, organization, and management of assigned projects from conception through execution.
Major roles and responsibilities include:
  • Coordinates planning, organization, development, implementation, integration and completion of engineering projects for MPBD
  • Uses specific knowledge to successfully research, plan, communicate and achieve objectives through program and/or project team.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Applies knowledge of advanced engineering and scientific methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems, (as well as opportunities for improvement).
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and plans methods of approach and organized means (integrated logic flow diagrams) to create new products or technologies for program.
  • Improves the engineering process by recommending and seeing thru to successful implementation; reviews technical analysis and design to ensure technically robust project timely, on budget completion.
  • Manages defined multi discipline technical projects of significant complexity and scope through organizing, delegating and managing work of other team members and contractors.
  • Directs projects and coordinates activities concerned with technical development and project schedule.
  • Performs engineering design evaluations and works to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints.
Job Duties:
  • Project Engineer supporting MPBD program
  • MRB support for assemblies, components, and materials
  • Production floor support at Promontory and Bacchus
  • Represent the program to the customer

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Self-Directed, reliable, detailed oriented but able to understand the big picture, flexible, and a demonstrated aptitude for rapid learning
  • Excellent communicator demonstrated ability to listen as well as communicate up, down, and across theorganizational structure within and across programs, functions, and organizations from operators to executive VP level management in the audience's own language. Demonstrated public speaking and effective technical communication ability
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining focused results within reliability, quality, schedule, and budget requirements/ constraints
  • Ability to create and present Technical justification for Material Review Board signature authority for D5 (requirements compliance support) as well as Technical Change Board engineering changes and implementation experience with Process Change Control Board.

Education/Certifications

  • BS degree in Engineering or related field required with 9 years experience; or
  • MS degree with 7 years experience; or PhD with 4 years experience

Position may be filled at a higher level requiring:

  • BS degree in Engineering or related field required with 14 years experience; or
  • MS degree with 12 years experience; or PhD with 9 years experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to direct others: Coordinate Engineering as well as teams of multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to present in executive level reviews, weekly customer meetings, as well as working group meetings
  • Active Secret clearance
