Sr. Principal Supplier Manufacturing Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for an Sr. Principal Supplier Manufacturing Engineerto join our Supplier Manufacturing Engineering team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

Supplier Manufacturing Engineering (SME) is responsible for supply base management related to the acquisition of Aerospace electronic, electrical and electromechanical hardware. This high visibility position requires a motivated, self-starter with an engineering and electronic component background with excellent interpersonal skills to respond to program customer product needs and concerns. The candidate will require extensive technical understanding of one or more of the following areas: connectors, harnessesand associatedfabrication materials and processes, Printed Wire Board (PWB) fabrication and assembly processes, electronic subsystem next higher assembly integration & test and failure analysis techniques. Candidate will be expected to work effectively with Materials &Processes (M&P) and other Engineering organizations to help resolve supplier issues and provide successful execution of technical solutions for acquisition activities in support of Global Supply Chain.

Responsibilities also include performing product producibility reviews, technical evaluations of proposals and supporting the internal processes associated with program part/product selection, qualification and approval, supplier capability approvals, manage work transfers, as well as hardware failure analysis and investigations. Candidate is expected to have the ability to work both independently and as a team player and must demonstrate the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with varying levels of program customers and functional organization leadership.

Travel required up to 25%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, or Mathematical) with 9 years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering role; OR a Masters Degree in STEM with7 years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering role;OR aPhD in STEM with4 years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering role.

  • Demonstrated experience to formulate and execute technical solutions to electronic part, assembly, and process engineering challenges

  • Demonstrated experience reviewing engineering specifications, schematicsanddrawings with the ability to translate customer driven requirements into specifications

  • Demonstrated experience using SAP,Windows software packages, and other electronic databases

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electronic Component/Commodity Engineering experience

  • Experience and understanding of standards for the production of high reliability connectors, cable/harnesses, and printed wiring board fabrication and assembly

  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of FAR & DFAR requirements

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 requirements

  • Active DoD secret or Top Secret clearance
