Raytheon Company Space and Airborne Systems business unit is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer with EO Sensor design experience to design Electro-Optical sensors for defense applications. The position is located in Aurora Colorado.

The Space EO Mechanical Department is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to help develop the next-generation of EO sensors for space applications. The candidate is responsible for helping to establish the Sensor technical baseline, including structural, thermal, and optical requirements and system interfaces. The successful candidate is also responsible for understanding design requirements, coordinating mechanical design, preparing design reviews, and presenting engineering designs and recommendations at Raytheon internal reviews, and customer / consultant design reviews. The position requires the mechanical design leader to understand tasks from the pre-proposal phase through conceptual design, preliminary and critical design, build, integration, test and delivery of complex Electro-Optical Sensors. The successful candidate will be leading a cross-functional engineering and analysis team from a strong technical background involving material selection, optical layout, thermal management, precision mechanical mounting and motion, and structural optimization while balancing cost and schedule constraints.

The Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for preparing large sections of program technical reviews including: the SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, MRR, CTI, and CTS presentations. These are typically large volumes of technical information that must be prepared and presented to internal line management, technical staff, program management, and customer reviewers and their consultants. New concepts must be "sold" to these highly-experienced individuals including well thought-out plans to mitigate / minimize potential technical issues.

Duties include design and analysis of EO Sensors, technical leadership and oversight of integrated design products, execution of Raytheon product development processes and technical risk assessments, deployment and improvement of design processes, technology planning and roadmap alignment, and mentoring junior engineers.

Job Related Activities:
• Lead and own the design, documentation, and implementation of EO mechanical hardware.
• Actively work with Program Management, Systems Engineering, and Customers to develop and manage objectives and requirements for related pursuits and projects.
• Lead a Mechanical Engineering Team to successfully design and document solutions to meet program objectives and requirements.
• Lead the management of subcontractors required for the development of EO related equipment.
• Comply with Export/Import (EX/IM) regulations and policies and support Jurisdiction Classification Assessments (JCAs) as needed.
• Ensure the consistent application of engineering best practices and that all activities undertaken are conducted to common standards in accordance with Raytheon's processes.

Required Skills:
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience
• Hands on experience in Electro-optical mechanical design
• CAD software, especially Creo
• Geometric Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Project leadership experience
• Able to present to customers / consultants
• Maintain positive customer and supplier relationships
• US Citizenship is required
• Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
• Must be able to obtain a SSBI security clearance

Desired Skills:
• Microsoft Project experience
• Prior design experience in DoD or Aerospace
• Already possess a SSBI security clearance

Required Education:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university.

Desired Education:
Advanced degree in a related field from accredited university.
