Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a Principle Engineer Mechanical to join the Mechanical Ground Systems Engineering team to develop Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) in support of the Integration and Test (I&T) of Space Systems located in Redondo Beach, CA.


The candidate will use a systems engineering approach to analyze requirements and design a mechanical solution by creating 3D models and drawings utilizing CATIA V5. In particular, the candidate will create layout drawings, fabrication drawings and engineering change orders, give design review presentations and perform fundamental types of analysis (e.g. strength of materials). Other tasks will include fabrication engineering liaison support, hardware testing, and supporting I&T operations as related to MGSE usage and processing.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field with at least 9 years of engineering experience; OR Master of Science in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field with at least 7 years of engineering experience

  • Experience creating 3D models and drawings for fabrication utilizing CAD

  • Practical working experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T)

  • Candidate must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years, OR must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Previous experience with CATIA V5

  • Previous experience with Risk and Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)

  • Previous experience leading and mentoring engineers

  • Experience in Support Equipment or Tooling design; weldments, load bearing fixtures, and lifting equipment

  • Experience in I&T operations as related to MGSE usage and processing

  • Active SCI/SSBI
