Sr. Principal Engineer Field - Hardware Field Engineer

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Contingency Deployment Operations (CDO) is looking for you to join our BACN team as a Hardware Field Engineer based out of the Spectrum Center facilities in San Diego. This position will be a Hardware Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) as part of the engineering team supporting operations and maintenance of complex tactical communications systems and data links providing voice and data services in a sustained operation located overseas and CONUS. The CDO Technical SME will report directly to the CDO Engineering Manager


What You'll get to Do

While at the production facility:

  • Coordinating non routine maintenance and technical notices

  • Coordinating the Troubleshooting of OCONUS issues that require engineering assistance

  • Reviewing schematics and other engineering and maintenance process related documentation

  • Providing OCONUS operations technical expertise to factory engineering teams and the training department.

  • Tracking and advising the factory engineering team regarding the resolution of OCONUS discrepancies

  • Assisting Spectrum Software and Cyber engineering in development and delivery of software upgrades and service packs

  • Advising Systems engineering on the potential impacts of future design changes to OCONUS operations

  • Project Management installing and upgrading equipment in the field.

While on travel OCONUS


  • Work on a flight line configuring UAV's for flight

  • Troubleshoot Hardware/Software issues

  • Perform system and computer maintenance

  • Operate and control data links during operational missions

  • Perform Linux System Administration and Account Management

  • Perform network troubleshooting and monitor IP Network health and status

  • Perform as Comsec Responsible Officer (CRO)

  • Perform as a Technical Lead of the OCONUS Tech Team

Basic Qualifications:
  • 9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD or 13 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Active secret clearance with the investigation completed in the last four (4) years
  • Pass AFCENT Physical which has BMI limitations
  • Must have a COMPTIA Security + or must obtain a Security + certification within six (6) months of first day of employment
  • Must have a Linux+ or CCNA certification or must pass Linux + or CCNA certification within six (60 months of employment
  • Should have broad experience with the operation, configuration and maintenance of military communications systems and data links, IP networks and radios to include the TCDL, PRC-117, PSC-5, ARC-210, SADL and Link 16 MIDS LVT
  • Knowledge of computers, radios, radio transmission fundamentals, RF theory and A/C power distribution systems as well as commercial and military interface and networking standards to include RS-232, RS-422, 1553, TCP/IP and UDP
  • Willing and able to travel to hazardous overseas duty locations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • COMPTIA Linux +
  • CCNA
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with electrical soldering and mil-standard connectors.
  • Experience working closely with an Active Duty/Government customer
  • Experience working with internal Northrop Grumman Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
  • Experience on flight lines, working on aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)
