Sr. Principal Data Subsystem Timing Responsible Design Engineer

The Ground Systems Development Department based in Manhattan Beach, CA is seeking talented digital electronic/electrical engineer interested in developing and integrating digital hardware focused on ground based applications. The Hardware development responsibilities includes satellite system ground based hardware and site support. The ideal candidate has experience with FPGA designs (simple to very complex), digital simulation and analysis, PCB design, digital testing and may have additional experience in the design of Units, Test Sets, subsystems, and systems.
Responsible for the following activities:
- Interact, collaborate, and interface with Payload Hardware Engineering, Payload Systems Engineering (PLSE), Link Systems Engineering (SE&I) to define architecture, algorithms, implementation, and requirements of a brand new link, which requires a thorough understanding of communications systems, modulators, demodulators, encoders, decoders, and more specifically, Operational Ground Equipment (OGE) and precision timing.
- Provide technical oversight and review of a complex high-speed PCB and collaborate with the board RDE to ensure board meets all unit requirements. Design recommendations must be provided for a high power consumption and high thermal stress design, while balancing greater than multi-lane high speed data operation through a multi-die FPGA with low-phase noise requirements.
- Lead preliminary design for the RF front end/demodulator, decoder, modulator, encoder and time tagging portions of the unit to the completion and presentation of customer-attended Unit IDR.
- Lead the detailed design of the RF front end/demodulator, decoder, modulator, encoder and timing portions of the unit, lead the FPGA design, development, and simulation of the various algorithms to the completion and presentation of customer-attended Unit IDR3.
- Provide technical oversight and support of a PCB first article checkout and verification at the product/board level.
- Lead first article checkout and verification of the Demod unit and entire Timing system while mentoring at least one less experienced or new college hire in the checkout, troubleshooting, and verification.
- Lead the preparation of the Unit IDR4 and CDA package once first article verification is completed.
- Lead, prepare, and present subsection of Timing System for the Subsystem Delta-IDA1 and IDA2.
- Cost Account Manager (CAM) responsibility to report monthly cost, schedule status, and variances for the Timing System.
- Lead and mentor at least 4 less experienced engineers or new college hires in PCB checkout and production acceptance testing as the Product Verification Lead.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or another STEM degree from an accredited institution and 9 years of experience; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.
  • 7 years of experience in an Engineering Environment
  • Experience in VHDL/Verilog and digital design
  • FPGA development experience
  • Active SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 9 years of Engineering experience in an Aerospace Environment
