Sr. Network Engineer

Description:

Leidos has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Network Engineer located in our San Diego, CA offices.

 

Candidate will be part of an integrated team working in a very dynamic environment, providing support to multiple geographically distributed systems in a complex network environment. The selected individual will support system engineering requests required to meet operational needs, and will engineer, deploy, and maintain capabilities that are new to the environment.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

 

Designing and implementing network solutions to meet program requirements and will recommend configuration changes to optimize performance ad meet evolving program requirements. He/she will be responsible for server/router/firewall configuration and security management of an environment consisting of Microsoft-based servers, databases, and workstations, as well as VMWare and Linux server instances. The network consists of a local LAN enclave in Maryland plus enclaves at several remote sites across the country and WAN links connecting the enclaves.

 

Additional responsibilities may include:

 

Developing network security requirements and policy and translating requirements into specific device configurations.

 

Providing network administration support for development, deployment, and problem identification/remediation of the enterprise network environment.

 

Providing enterprise LAN support, working closely with the IT service provider teams to ensure customer requirements are considered and supported by the evolving LAN/WAN architecture.

 

Planning and implementing IT enhancements and undertaking project work.

 

Developing and implementing migration plans; determining appropriate circuit capacities; coordinating redesign efforts with the development team and customer; implementing changes in routing tables to migrate sites to new networks.

 

Identifying and correcting WAN hardware, software, and circuit problems.

 

Responding to network administration, operations, and maintenance problems while off duty, on an on-call basis.


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical field and 12 plus years of experience.

 

Possess strong analytic abilities and must be meticulous and careful in their work.

 

Cisco experience and certification, firewall experience, and Network encryption experience.

 

Experience optimizing system performance, as well as experience with the following systems: Linux/Windows, Cisco Systems, and Networking: Switches, Routers, LAN, WAN, ASA.

 

Must be committed to adopting and adhering to best practices including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.

 

Possess excellent written and communication skills, and be an independent thinker capable of working proficiently independently as well as within a team.

 

Must be able to support planned after hours activities on occasion.

 

Candidate must possess an active Secret clearance, and be eligible to obtain a Top Secret clearance or higher.

 

Following is desired but not required:

Master’s Degree in a related technical field.

Palo Alto and HAIPE experience preferred.

Experience documenting and providing information for security accreditation and certification.

Experience with Data Center design and configuration (e.g. rack and stack, power, placement, etc.).

Thorough understanding of standards based engineering drawing packages.

Thorough knowledge of networking essentials in a professional office atmosphere.

Occasional CONUS travel to facilitate diagnosis of network issues may be required.
