Sr Mechanical Engineer II – Tech Lead REA Product Design & Production Support

The Mechanical Subsystems Directorate (MSD) is seeking several Senior Mechanical Engineers at our Tucson, AZ, plant site to support across multiple programs as a Technical Lead Responsible Engineering Authority. Individuals will be considered who possess direct aerospace industry experience across the product life cycle from early concept development and proposal phase, through product development, qualification, and production phases. Candidates must possess and have demonstrated leadership values and behaviors to be self-sufficient in driving deliverables among teams in a diverse, face paced, technically challenging environment.

These Mechanical Engineering positions perform in alignment to expectations as defined by the role of the Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) and will require the individual to leverage their proven leadership skills to establish and drive technical execution plans in resolution to a broad spectrum of complex technical challenges. Product design will require requirements evaluation & definition, concept development trades, early cycles of learning, DFMAs, margin analysis, technical data package (TDP) development, geometric dimensioning and tolerance principals, critical design principals, preparation of technical analysis reports, and integration principals. Production Support will put forth technical execution plans that drive to root cause and put forth corrective actions with technical merit and business acumen.

As a Senior Engineer, the individual is expected to function without appreciable direction or supervision and coordinate with Chief Engineers and Integrated Product Team Leads while exercising considerable latitude in defining terms and conditions of deliverables in collaboration across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality. Candidates should possess and articulate a proven record of delivered performance through data driven decision making, risk and opportunity management, and systems thinking to assure delivered product performance.

Required Skills/Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, or other Engineering discipline
  • Six (6) years professional experience in mechanical design and / or production support
  • Experience with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools
  • Experienced in applied Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance
  • Experienced in developing and presenting reports for Engineering Review Boards.
  • Must currently have or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Desired Skills:

  • Nine (9) years professional experience in industry preferred
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbally and written
  • Recognized technical authority in supporting non-advocate reviews
  • Experience leading investigative teams relative to root cause and corrective action
  • Expertise in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development
  • Capable of supporting assignments both in design development and production support
  • Proven ability in leading technical teams and putting forth execution plans
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of MS processes and procedures
  • Knowledgeable in EVMS principals

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
