Sr Manufacturing Engineer ( process, tool development, assembly)

The Manufacturing Engineering (MfgE) Department of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems provides premier engineering and manufacturing support expertise to enable on-time, lowest cost hardware delivery with performance and reliability that exceed customer expectations. MfgE executes across all phases of a program including proposal capture, process development, transition to production, and production support.

The Manufacturing Engineering Department is a diverse composite of core capabilities and centralized support teams including:

  • Precision Metal Fabrication
  • Large Scale Hardware / Systems Integration
  • Harness / Cable Fabrication
  • Surface Acoustic Wave Oscillators / Resonators
  • Magnetics & Ferrite Assembly
  • Missile Forebody / Radome Assembly
  • Underwater Sonar & Torpedo Integration
  • Circuit Card Assembly
  • Advanced Electronic Sub-Assembly
  • Cabinet Integration Center
Manufacturing Engineering’s engagement with Raytheon products is not just limited to Raytheon manufacturing sites. We support our large supplier network and international builds with deployment of engineers. These engineers help to troubleshoot and resolve supplier issues before they come into Raytheon factories; as well as helping to integrate Major End Items (MEIs) at domestic and international sites.

Job Description:

Manufacturing Engineers
develop and improve manufacturing processes by studying products and manufacturing methods. They analyze product specifications to determine appropriate designs and processes which support these customer requirements. You would apply your skills to develop, test, modify, and create solutions through a collaborative effort with various teams.

This is a second shift position which includes an additional 8% pay differential

SpecificResponsibilitiesInclude:

  • Creating and overseeing projects using risk management techniques
  • Translating engineering design requirements into formal manufacturing process documentation
  • Providing technical leadership to multi-disciplined teams
  • Dispositioning non-conforming material with root cause and corrective action analysis as required
  • Driving Continuous Improvement through process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to assemblers, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using Six Sigma principles and data driven decision making
  • Providing real-time technical support to manufacturers and fabricators; in-house as well as the supply base.
  • Conducting safety / ergonomic assessments

This position will require interaction with senior personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations and / or suppliers with some travel required.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Basic Skills :
  • 5+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience
  • Experience in Manufacturing Process and Procedure Development and Maintenance
  • Specialized Tooling Development (such as Jigs, Fixtures, Specialized Packaging Development)
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing & Assembly with Sustainment
Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Six Sigma principles and techniques
  • Process familiarity with paint, plating, chromate / chemical conversions
  • Innovative mindset that drives continuous improvement and keeps pace with advances in technology
  • Exceptional organizational skills with fine attention to detail
  • Proficiency with CAD solid modeling tools
  • Proficiency with simulation tools and augmented reality
  • Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management (PDM) System
  • Experience with various automation systems
  • Experience with MRL and TRL (Manufacturing Readiness Level and Technology Readiness Level) Assessments
  • Ability to contribute in a team settings as well as individually
  • Solid understanding of configuration management practices
  • Proven written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to work across disciplines
  • Ability to work with minimum direct supervision
  • Active DoD Clearance (Secret, Confidential)
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with related military and industry standards and specifications disposition non-conforming material with root cause and corrective action analysis
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Six Sigma principles and techniques
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of tools (such as Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint)
Required Education:

Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.
