Sr. Litigation Support Specialist -Washington, D.C.

Job Description


  • Responsible for administration and maintenance of DOJ’s automated litigation support applications and tools.  
  • Participate in defining and maintaining processes, procedures, risks, issues and tools required to effectively deliver timely e-discovery solutions in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Establish and refine processes and procedures to align e-discovery industry best practices with DOJ requirements.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in the development of technical projects including planning, requirements, timelines, resource allocations, documentation and implementation.
  • Consistently monitor, assess and deliver well-articulated and informed communications of project and resource status to internal and external clients.
  • Manage internal resources to meet technical requirements and deadlines.
  • Facilitate project, retrospectives and lessons-learned meetings with appropriate individuals or teams.
  • Actively engage in recognizing issues and inefficiencies, define and implement process improvements.
  • Responsible for tracking, processing and hosting electronically stored information (ESI) for large and complex cases. 
  • Provides technical expertise, direction and project supervision for junior team members.
  • Function as a technical supervisor or team leader for projects or teams. 
  • Provides regular reports on project status.
  • Provides user and technical documentation and training for systems developed.
  • Responsible for supporting the eDiscovery needs of attorneys and support staff and implementing the Department’s best practices related to eDiscovery and data workflow. 
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to design databases and establish workflows to support efficient document reviews and search and retrieval. 
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to manage litigation databases, including data load, creation of indices and execution of Relativity scripts/applications. 
  • Performs quality assurance of all EFP services. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that incoming productions are made pursuant to the applicable ESI specifications and when deficiencies are found, provides Project Manager with detailed notice of deficiencies. 
  • Troubleshoot and recommend technical solutions. 
  • Recommends process improvement to ensure high quality, timely and cost-effective methods are utilized. 
  • Monitor changes in litigation support software industry.   
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of DOJ’s litigation support environment to include processing, hosting, review and presentation tools and applications.
  • Lead and assist with identifying and implementing technologies to support DOJ’s e-discovery requirements.
  • Advise internal teams on technologies and systems related to electronic discovery, evidence management and specialized databases.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance and oversight for junior team members.
  • Provide forensically sound solutions for exchanging, analyzing, processing and presenting data collected from electronic devices, law enforcement and other sources.
  • Provide forensically sound solutions for large and complex ESI collections.
  • Manage processing and hosting of data collected from electronic devices.
  • Work with project managers to implement conceptual analytic functionality and technology assisted reviews on in-house Relativity work spaces.
  • Diagnose and correct system and network problems related to litigation tools and serve as technical liaison to vendors and in-house IT teams and stakeholders.
  • Address challenging automation needs of DOJ litigating sections.
  • Review market for new tools and technologies and make recommendations to senior management team.
  • Define technical and business requirements and develop or coordinate the development of specialized database programs or applications to meet end-user requirements.
  • Work with other internal technology groups to resolve technical problems.
  • Manage projects under tight deadlines and stressful circumstances in a professional manner.

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience with e-discovery software administration (i.e., Relativity, Ipro, Nuix, LAW, Venio, Palantir) and encryption methods.
  • Must be able to analyze a problem or project quickly and accurately, and work with others to implement solutions.
  • Knowledge of litigation discovery process and the EDRM workflow, preferably in criminal discovery.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines. 
  • At least two years of experience with SQL, Relativity and Nuix scripting.
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid technical troubleshooting, critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Knowledge of Government’s IT environment, including office automation networks, PC and server based applications.   
  • Technical expertise in managing large and complex databases and systems. 
  • Experience managing multiple projects including system administration, processing, quality assurance and forensic analysis. 
  • Undergraduate degree preferred-preferably in computer science or related field. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime, when necessary.

  • Technical certification(s) valued.
