Sr. Cyber Engineer II

Our Cybersecurity Engineers support the COBRA DANE Program located at the COBRA DANE facility in Shemeya, Alaska. This position supports the Cobra Dane Program Protection Lead, providing certified services and Information Assurance/Program Protection for the COBRA DANE system in compliance of U.S. DoD and Air Force Cybersecurity, Physical Security and Personnel Security directives.


This position operates on a Rotation Schedule of 8 weeks on Shemeya Island, AK and 5 weeks Rest and Relaxation (R&R) off island (repeated 4 times annually) at any CONUS location.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Support of a local unclassified network consisting of approximately 60 IA or IA-Enabled devices (25 workstations, 16 physical/virtual Servers, 6 enterprise type network infrastructure devices, 8 non-enterprise network switches, KVM, Storage Area Network (SAN) array, a tape backup server, and 2 smart power distribution units, 5 network printers)
• Cybersecurity functions
• Excellent documentation & reporting skills are required to ensure hand-off with fellow rotation cyber engineers


Clearance Requirement:
Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with SCI access

A bonus of "up to" $40,000.00 is being offered to hired applicants with Active TS/SCI, or higher, clearances

Required Skills:
• IAT2 or greater cybersecurity certification per DoD 8570.01-Manual (Current or within 60 days of hire)
• Experience in Information Systems Security/Information Assurance, Security Engineering
• Understanding of DFARS 252.204-7012 and associated National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-171
• Experience with security authorization packages and related artifacts, bodies of evidence
• Experience supporting various computer hardware platforms and multiple operating systems in both stand alone and LAN/WAN configurations
• Working knowledge of operating systems security features and settings (e.g. Windows, UNIX, and Linux)
• Professional demeanor, good interpersonal skills, and ability to excel in a high-paced multi-tasked environment
• Demonstrated ability to act independently, prioritize tasks, and manage to schedule
• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written modes
• Thorough task documentation to support hand-off of tasking to paired staff
• Ability to meet unique travel and work schedule requirements of position
◦ Typical work schedule: 12 hours a day, 7 days a week but are not limited to this schedule
◦ Rotation Schedule & Rest and Relaxation (R&R) up to 20 weeks off annually: 8 weeks on duty followed by 5 weeks R&R (off-island) repeated quarterly (4 times annually)

Desired Skills:
• Experience with Air Force Network Operations (AFNETOPS) and Information Assurance/Cybersecurity Operations (AFCYBER) at the MAJCOM, Base and/or Squadron level
• Experience with information security toolset including anti-virus, Vulnerability Assessment, HIDS/ NIDS
• Experience with IA vulnerability testing and related network and system test tools; e.g., ACAS, Nagios, Nessus, Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP)
• Previous role in Information Assurance, Cybersecurity and/or Program Protection in an Air Force Network Operations & Security Center (NOSC) and/or Communications Squadron operational environment (MAJCOM IA staff, Wing Information Assurance Office, or similar)
• Previous experience supporting a Designated Approval Authority (DAA) in the establishment of IA/Program Protection doctrine, directives, instructions or related plans, policies and procedures
• Previous experience as a DAA Technical representative is highly desired
• Understanding of DoD 8500 directives and NIST 800 series special publications, NISPOM, CNSS policies and procedures, etc.

Required Education:
6 years with a BS in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math or related technical degree; 4 years with a MS in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math or related technical degree
