SR Afghan Cultural Advisor

Raytheon Technologies is seeking a Senior Afghanistan Cultural Advisorto support the USSOCOM J3 SOJTF. The J3 SOJTF supports and coordinates responsive support to Special Operations Joint Task Forces day-to-day operations, crisis response, and contingency planning. SME support ensures deploying SOF gain effective cultural understanding, background and historical knowledge during their SOJTF pre-deployment training. Apply cultural, linguistic and historical expertise to mission analysis and planning. As required, advise current and future SOJTF commanders and staff on cultural, religion and other issues.

Travel – Position will require travel to CONUS and OCONUS non-hazardous locations.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide relevant professional information to SOJTF-A concerning the historical, political, military, cultural, religious, and economic conditions and factors that personnel deploying to Afghanistan in support of SOF may encounter.
  • Provide information to SOJTF-A of key events, civilizations, empires, and personalities in Afghanistan’s history, and the critical role these factors perform in the current mission.
  • Provide information to SOJTF-A on the importance of the Afghan perspective and perceptions, contrasted against the U.S. perspective or perception, and how these differences and commonalities impact our ability to accomplish SOF objectives in Afghanistan.
  • Provide information to SOJTF-A on the main features of Afghanistan’s Physical geography, understand the key aspects of various regions and how their location in relation to Kabul influences Special Operations Forces operations.
  • Produce clear well written presentations, plans, briefings and papers to government personnel and GO/FO.
  • Assist in hosting/chairing meetings, visitations or conferences related to SOJTF operations, plans, emerging special operations opportunities and other initiatives.

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field with at least a minor in Middle Eastern studies
  • 5 years’ experience informing and briefing members of DoD on the historical, political, military, cultural, religious, and economic conditions and factors of Afghanistan
  • 6 months’ experience working in Afghanistan within the past 3 years.
  • 1 years’ experience working on the staff of or a supporting element of a SOJTF.
  • 3 years’ experience briefing and preparing written products for senior leaders (general officer/flag officer/senior executive service level)
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance and eligible for SCI access
