Space Systems Engineer (Scientist and Engineer Level 4)

This position provides support to the 45 Test Squadron – Space and Intel Command & Control (C2) Test Flight at Eglin AFB.  This support includes the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership and frequently serves as the final technical authority for the Space Fence and other Space Command and Control systems, encompassing the whole Space Situational Awareness (SSA) portfolio, such as Space Surveillance Telescope (SST), Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN), Upgraded Early Warning Radar (UEWR), Cobra Dane, PARCS, among others.
  • Provides individual scientific and engineering support of critical importance to the customer. Types of tasks include test and evaluation, data analysis, test support, and general technical studies related to developmental test and long-term programs sustainment.
  • Assists in the development of system requirements, performance measures, test phase entry/exit criteria, and analysis of test design constraints functional capabilities, and metrics.
  • Supports Developmental Test and Evaluation (DT&E), Operational Test (OT), Force Development Evaluation (FDE), Risk Reduction Testing (RRT) and certification for test readiness; identifies deficiencies, verify compliance with specifications and standards, and assess stability of various system configurations.
  • Interacts with System Program Offices, other services, and development contractors.
  • Prepares, executes, reviews, and analyzes test plans, procedures, metrics, and reports throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Develops and write methods of tests, Concept of Operations (CONOPS), test cases, test objectives/procedures, test directives, technical or letter reports, analysis and review of requirements, and other test process documents as required in the conduct of testing.
  • Coordinates schedules, pre-and post-test activities, logistics of test planning, and test reports.
  • Travels up to 30% of time to contractors' facilities, test sites, and other locations (OCONUS and CONUS).

  • This position requires a technical Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or other technical discipline (i.e. CS, EE, AE, ME, etc.) and at least 10 years of relevant experience. Twelve years of applicable experience may be substituted for a Master’s Degree (Total of 22 years) or eight years of relevant technical experience and a technical BS Degree (Total of 18 Years).
  • Relevant technical experience in one of the following fields: applied physics, space operations, astrodynamics, space sensors, scientific programming, service-oriented architecture (SOA) software or web services. Experience with structured testing.
  • A current and active Top Secret Security clearance required.
  • Ability to interface with prime contractors developing the system under test (SUT) regarding test objectives, schedules, budgets, and methods of test.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team and to lead and direct the work of others.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in the use and integration of MS Office applications.
