Software Engineer AWS, SME w/Polygraph

Job Description

Researches, designs, develops and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software.

 
  • Experience with automated provisioning technologies or methods such as AWS CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or AWS bootstrapping via cloud-init scripts.
  • Experience with scripting (e.g. Shell, Bash, Peri, Python, etc.) and ability to automate routine operations through open source scripts or tool sets
  • Experience with creating and delivering enterprise DevOps architecture framework, engineering design, implementation that support the entire lifecycle of software application development and infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience with DevOps Tier-3 SME troubleshooting, investing, and performing root cause analysis on production incidents
  • Experience with Java development and middleware web services (e.g. Apache, Tomcat, Oracle, MySQL, Kafka, Postgres, SQL Servers, HS).
  • Experience with Linux (e.g. RedHat, Centos, Solaris, Scientific Linux), Server environments, and be able to build, configure, and maintain via Command Line Interface (CLI) and automated provisioning.
  • Experience with proactive monitoring tools and concepts, including experience configuring and deploying Network and systems monitoring, (e.g. Ganglia, Nagios, Zenoss, Splunk, SolarWinds, etc.).
  • Experience using Amazon Web Service technologies such as AWS Command Line (AWSCLI), Amazon Machine Images (AMI), Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Simple Storage Service (S3), Elastic Block Storage (EBS), Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), or CloudWatch
  • Competencies with enterprise engineering design and implementation for Platform (e.g. Windows and Linux), Web and Application Services to include secure remote access to web and SaaS applications with zero endpoint configuration
  • Experience supporting deliveries to development, test and production web application server environments.
  • Implementing build pipelines with Git commit hooks (Code Commit/Code Deloy), Jenkins plug-ins, configuration management and AMI builders.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated on-the-job experience and excellent understanding of different software development programming languages (e.g. Python, Shell, CIC++, Java, JavaScript, PERL, Pentaho Data Integration, Logstashk, Kibana, Rstudio, Rtools, Nifi, CloverETL).

 

 

1. Leads the research and development of new software products and applications on the leading edge of established knowledge and standards.

 

2. Conceives, designs, prototypes, and tests new methods, algorithms, and models.

 

3. Defines architecture requirements and performance standards to meet or exceed management and customer specifications.

 

4. Identifies and directs resolution of complex hardware/software interface issues.

 

5. Advises hardware engineers on machine characteristics that affect software systems, such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements.

 

6. Prepares reports on analyses, findings, and project progress, and presents results to management and/or customer personnel.

 

7. Serves as the primary customer interface to resolve problems and ensure requirements are met on a timely basis.

 

8. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced software engineers, and may have supervisory responsibilities.

 

9. Serves as a technical team or task leader.

 

10. May provide expertise to multiple projects and tasks.

 

11. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

 

12. Participates in special projects as required.

Education

1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

 

2. Masters Degree Preferred.

Qualifications

15-20 years of related software development experience.
