Look no further....Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. has an exciting opportunity for an energetic and motivated Staff Software Developer 2 at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren, VA. The successful applicant will work in direct support of a Navy Program Management office providing various management support services. This person must be able to think creatively and challenge conventional thinking over a wide variety of government related projects focusing on better ways to leverage related efforts across DoD programs to meet objectives for greater integration and inter-operability.  This requires someone who has strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities that can thrive in a cross-functional setting. Staff Software Developer 2 duties include supporting operational and technical assessments of technology and operational concept developments/demonstrations, and capability fielding in the following areas:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Under minimal direction, perform as a technical expert in the design development, coding, testing, and debugging new software or complex enhancements to existing software.
  • Work with technical staff to understand and to develop resolution of software problems.
  • Resolve customer complaints with software and respond to suggestions for software modifications or enhancements.
  • Participate in the development of software user manuals.
  • Assist in the training of less experienced software development staff and may act as a team leader on less complex projects.

Required Skills:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree (in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field) or equivalent.
  • Analysis, design, and development of mobile applications on iOS and/or Android platform(s) and web-based applications.
  • Strong database and/or GIS development experience is a plus
  • Basic Computer expertise and software understanding
  • Excellent communication skills with appropriate internal and external contacts
  • Preparing and delivering information in a concise and professionally written format
  • Preparing and presenting information to staff in a formal and informal setting
  • Analyzing and developing solutions to problems

Required Experience:

  • Five to seven years of related experience.
  • Ability to work independently, including setting and achieving interim milestones that support higher task objectives
  • Candidate must possess a current/active DoD Secret Security Clearance (*ARAClear)
  • Experience developing Android and Windows applications. Utilizing Android Studio is desired.
  • Developing web services, as well as use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and SQLite
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Visual Studio or Spring
  • Development experience using technologies such as ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, JavaScript, jQuery, or OWF
  • Familiarity with configuration management systems such as SVN or Git
  • Organized individual, with prioritization and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, especially interviewing skills
  • He/she must be able to function in a team-oriented environment and be able to interact professionally with employees and management at all levels.
