Software Design Engineer (JBUS/JSAF), Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE)

Description

Software Design Engineer (JBUS/JSAF), will under general supervision, performs analysis, design, development, testing, debugging and implementation of moderately complex software. Within a diverse, highly skilled, agile team, develop software to bridge tactical systems to simulation based training solutions. The successful candidate will contribute to systems developed and deployed within the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE).

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Defines specifications for moderately complex software applications and/or oversees the maintenance of existing systems to ensure continued performance and compliance with current guidelines and standards.

·         Performs all necessary aspects of the software development lifecycle including design, testing, debugging and documenting using current guidelines and standards.

·         Under general supervision, defines architecture requirements and performance standards to meet customer specifications.

·         Participates in the analysis and development of test plans.  Tests assigned components and units, provides test results and recommends corrections.

·         Identifies and implements resolution of moderately complex software interface issues or other technical problems.

·         Researches and develops prospective products and maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies.

·         Authors or assists in the writing and/or presentation of briefings (reports on analyses, findings, and project progress), project or task plans, system specification manuals, technical reports and user manuals.

·         Participates in the preparation of technical proposals.

·         Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

·         Bachelor’s degree in computer or electrical engineering plus at least 2 to 4 years of directly related experience. Highly prefer 5 or more years of experience. Subsequent employment, achieving employer funded Security+ and an OS certification will be required if the successful candidate does not have them already.

·         In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 5 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    Experience with language programs such as C/C++ and JAVA

    Experience with Agile development methodologies

    Familiarity with web development and architecture is a plus

    Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

    Ability to communicate engineering concepts effectively.

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in systems development.

    3-5 years of experience with Software engineering, digital logic, circuit analysis, and embedded systems programming.

    3-5 years of experience with software development tools and programming languages are a plus.

Must possess and be able to maintain an Active Secret security clearance.
