Software and Information Assurance Engineer

The Undersea Systems Office (USO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a Software and Information Assurance Engineer to join our System Design Department.

 This position will work as part of a team which develops and deploys software components of Autonomous Systems.

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Work with IA team to meet IA needs including: Compliance, Vulnerability Scanning and Management, Security Architecture, IA Awareness and Training, and possibly Authorization and Accreditation (AA)
  • Customize, deploy, and manage RHEL operating systems
  • Develop scripts for compact stand-alone systems.

This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.

Experience with the following is preferred: 

  • Coding skills in C, C++, and Python
  • RHEL
  • Windows
  • Linux system administrator skills.

 

Experience with the following is required: 

  • Solid understanding of network concepts (UDP, TCP and network devices).
  • Ability to work as part of a small development team
  • Occasional travel 

You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year fixed-term renewable appointment.
