SMORS Principal Systems Engineer

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Sustainment and Modernization of Radar Sensors (SMORS) program is looking for you to join our team as a High-altitude Electro-Magnetic Pulse (HEMP) Principal Systems Engineer (SE).based out of Colorado Springs, CO.

What You'll get to Do:


  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses

  • Ensure solutions meet customer requirements as well as technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Conduct nuclear hardness & survivability analyses, tests, and design, with an emphasis on electrical/magnetic analysis of hardness problems

  • Monitor weapon system Hardness Maintenance and Hardness Surveillance (HM/HS) tasks performed by subcontractors on the weapon system

  • Assist in the development of technical procedures and manuals

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 Years with Bachelors; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. within a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)discipline from an accredited college

  • Active SECRET security clearance or higher

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 Years with Bachelors; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. within Electrical Engineering from an accredited college

  • Experience working with ground based radar systems, preferably Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) PAVE Phased Array Warning System (PAVE PAWS) and/or Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System (PARCS)

  • Thorough understanding of HEMP, RF propagation, RF coupling, electrical power systems and HEMP protection and counter measures

  • Demonstrated experience performing EM (electromagnetic) effects testing, planning, and report generation

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD 188-125, MIL-STD 464, MIL-STD 461 and MIL-HDBK-423

  • Experience conducting EMP testing per MIL-STD-188-125

  • Previous experience supporting a government and/or DoD customer
