Shipping and Receiving Clerk

Job Description

The Shipping Receiving Clerk works at the United States Postal Service (USPS) Central Repair Facility (CRF) in Topeka, KS and reports directly to the Production Control Department Manager. The CRF is a depot repair facility for USPS mail processing, delivery, and bulk mail systems repairable parts. Examples: repairing printed circuit boards, electrical, electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies to component level. The CRF provides depot level maintenance for essential automation, mechanization, retail and bulk mail processing systems used in all mail processing and retail installations.

The Shipping Receiving Clerk Performs interchangeably as receiving clerk and shipping clerk based on workload and manpower availability. As receiving clerk unpacks, identifies, and prepares necessary receiving documents required for work control of end items as established in work instructions. Unloads and distributes piece parts and supplies to appropriate areas. Performs other duties as required under the direction of the Production Control Supervisor. As shipping clerk follows the instructions for packing, marking, and shipping as required to meet timely shipping performance of all USPS end items repaired by the Central Repair Facility. Coordinates necessary shipping paperwork as required in the established work instructions. Performs other duties as required.


BASICREQUIREMENTS:

High School graduate or equivalent
One year of related shipping receiving experience required
Accuracy with numbers and Key entry skills
Use of a scanner
Ability to operate a forklift
Ability to use small hand tools
Ability to operate machines
Ability to compare a picture and description to an actual item
Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security Clearance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity may include forklift climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and repetitive motion. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate forklift and/or heavy equipment. The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with a personal computer
