We are looking for a motivated test engineer with technical writing experience to perform the quality assurance/quality control activities for the Cyber Operation Infrastructure which include providing formal test plans for complex hardware/software systems.  This documentation will be used by customers and personnel to reference while installing, using, maintaining, and training others on our software and hardware.  Other job responsibilities include supporting engineering, design, software development, material procurement, integration, test, training, management, integrated program support, configuration management, and cyber security activities.

The ideal candidate should have a knowledge of networking protocols and experience with testing client-server applications, Linux-based software, and embedded hardware products. The candidate should also be able to estimate, prioritize, plan, coordinate, and execute testing activities; create detailed, comprehensive test plans; identify, record, and track defects found in testing; perform thorough regression testing after defects have been fixed; and provide solid release documentation for our customers.

 Essential Duties:

  • Estimates levels of effort for each testing activity and creates/manages the overall schedule and supporting resources
  • Collaborates and coordinates with leads to execute testing activities and to communicate scheduling risks, defects and issues found during testing
  • Participates in all aspects of testing, including functional, integration, regression, load/performance, system, security, and user acceptance testing
  • Develops comprehensive test procedures and reports that provide traceability to the Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix (RVTM) and ensures the acceptance criteria is met for each test case
  • Reports test progress, coverage, defect metrics, and overall assessment to the team lead
  • Manages defects and proactively identifies risks to lead team members
  • Has strong debugging and troubleshooting skills to provide detailed root cause analysis
  • Leads/Participates in customer-witnessed acceptance testing
  • Has excellent communication and written documentation skills
  • Defines quality metrics and targets for assessment, measurement, and continuous improvement of QA and testing effectiveness
  • Ability to set up test environment to include installing software packages on Linux platforms or installing/configuring hardware/networking components
  • Collaborates with automation test team to provide manual regression tests for automation candidates

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related engineering, technical, or scientific discipline preferred -  will consider work experience in lieu of a degree
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience and training commensurate with computer science, computer engineering, quality assurance curriculums preferred
  • 8+ years of professional experience in the areas of Quality Assurance/Quality Control efforts
  • Professional knowledge of agile development and test processes
  • Strong knowledge and experience using the Linux operating system
  • Experience analyzing layer 2 and above networking protocols using Wireshark
  • Top Secret Security Clearance preferred

Desired:

  • Experience with scripting or automation test languages such as Python, Bash or Java
  • Experience testing and debugging Client/Server Web-based applications
  • Experience deploying, configuring, and using Virtual Machine environments (VMware, AWS, etc)
  • Experience configuring, troubleshooting, and performance testing networking devices (switches, routers, etc)
  • Experience with the DoD Risk Management Framework and testing Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • CompTIA Security+, ASTQB Software Tester, Foundation level or above certifications preferred
  • Knowledge of layer 2 and above network protocols and Wireshark
  • Experience with scripting languages for automation testing

Candidate must meet eligibility requirements for a security clearance by the U.S. Government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment

  

Position will be based primarily at Parsons office in Centreville, VA.  Some minimal travel may be required.
