The SeniorSoftware Engineeris responsible for writing and maintaining source code, creating andmaintaining software applications and applying frameworks involved in asoftware release of the Navy’s Risk Management Information (RMI) requirementintegration into the Air Force Safety Automated System (AFSAS). The Senior SoftwareEngineer will support the deployment of newtechnical solutions, products, and/or standards in support of functionsstrategy and operations under limited supervision and will provide guidance tomore junior members of the team.

Duties andResponsibilities:

  • Duties include software development,documentation, configuration management, testing, and debugging to create andmaintain a three-tiered architecture using the Agile software release lifecycle and resulting in a software product.
  • Developsoftware solutions by:
    • Studyinginformation needs
    • Conferring withusers
    • Studying systemsflow, data usage, and work processes
    • Investigatingproblem areas
    • Following thesoftware development lifecycle
  • Definesite objectives by analyzing user requirements
  • Envisionsystem features and functionality.
  • Designand implement a variety of user interfaces
  • Developapplications using Java, jQuery, JavaScript, Struts, Velocity, JSON, Ajax andOracle
  • Developmentusing with Eclipse, Tomcat, Ant, SVN, and SQL Developer, preferably in a Linuxenvironment
  • Ensuresoftware security by developing programs to actively monitor the sharing ofprivate information
  • Supportdevelopment by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities
  • Contributeto team meetings
  • Troubleshootdevelopment and production problems across multiple environments and operatingplatforms.
  • Testand evaluate new programs
  • Identifyareas for modification in existing programs and subsequently develop modifications
  • Developdetailed specifications and writing the program codes
  • Supportusers by developing documentation and assistance tools.
  • PerformQA for pre-deployment activities
  • UtilizeAgile development methodologies
  • Otherduties as assigned

MinimumQualifications: (Toperform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in ComputerScience or equivalent discipline or 7+ years of experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Java,jQuery, JavaScript and SQL
  • Experience with:
    • Webapplication development and object-oriented programming
    • Subversionor other version control and collaborative tools
    • Struts,Velocity, Eclipse, bootstrap, and Oracle 12
  • Secret clearance required

Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities:

  • Experience with the SpringFramework preferred
  • Experience with COGNOS,Informatica, or Tableau preferred
  • Preferred, but not required,knowledge of the Air Force Safety Automated System (AFSAS)
  • Strong working experience in allphases of the SDLC, and EW data analysis/library products to support automatedtool development is strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel
  • Must be capable of quickly learningnew systems and associated software applications for proficient execution oftasks
  • Must be capable of managingmultiple projects with time-related constraints in a fast-paced contractmanufacturing environment
  • Must be able to speak effectivelybefore groups of internal and/or external customers or employees
  • Must be well organized, aneffective communicator and collaborate with diverse internal and externalstakeholder groups and individuals and able to grasp system concepts andcommunicate their applications

  • While performing the duties of thisJob, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.   • The employee will normally work ina temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure toelectronic office equipment.
  • During visits to areas ofoperations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborneparticles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
