The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking candidates for a senior-level Process Engineer reporting directly to the MFC Facility & System Engineering Department Manager within the MFC Engineering Division.

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.

The Process Engineer will provide engineering oversight and technical direction for assigned process systems and equipment which directly support programmatic work in the Fuels Conditioning Facility.

Key functions of the role are:

•Lead in the development of technical proposals for programs that will benefit the development of the science base of the INL.
•Perform execution of experiments, equipment troubleshooting, maintenance planning & execution for assured desired outcomes.
•Work closely with the facility mission manager to ensure programmatic efforts are scheduled and executed on time
•Provide senior level engineering input to program managers, project managers, principle investigators, and facility manager, to proposed experiments & examinations (for multiple programs) and facility modifications to ensure operations can be performed in a safe and efficient manner while providing technically correct results.
•Maintain equipment, operational procedures and oversee the operation of process equipment supporting a variety of laboratory research studies.
•Contribute to the development of new capabilities and intellectual property.
•Lead efforts to supports facility operations, maintenance personnel, and project personnel to ensure assigned process systems and equipment are operated, maintained, and modified to meet operational and research needs within the system applicable baseline, and in accordance with current codes and standards.
•Maintain knowledge of current operational status and future plans as well as a participating in the modification proess.
•Lead and mentor more junior engineers and assists in the development and management of career goals for others.


Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) "L" security clearance

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience or Master’s Degree and 5+ years

Preferred Qualifications:

Electro-mechanical components (selection and operation)

Instrumentation and Control (basic understanding and how to use in various applications)

Mechanical Design (capable of developing new designs and the modifications of existing designs with drawings/sketches and basic design calculations)

Configuration Management (i.e., operational procedures development, system design descriptions, drawings, process, data collection and interpretation)

Remote hot cell equipment operations and maintenance

Selective Service Requirements
