Senior Principal Structural Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems located in El Segundo, CA has an opening for a Senior Principal Structural Engineer.

The selected candidate will support the Structural Analysis Tools, Methods, and Processes Community of Practice for the purposes of Model Based Engineering development execution. Applicants must have knowledge in Aircraft and/or Spacecraft programs and Advanced Technologies, solving complex structural analysis problems for Air/Space based platforms and missions involving composite and metallic structures.

Duties require familiarity with Design layouts, structural analysis and structural integrity evaluations, documentation of analysis results, interfacing with customers, providing cost estimates, coordination with other engineering disciplines, and meeting schedule and cost commitments. The candidate must be a self-starter and be able to handle multiple tasks in parallel; and they must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be skilled in use of the Microsoft Office software suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities will include: Managing ES-AS Liaison activities; Program Liaison activities, Training Materials Development and Dissemination; Teaching classes and other training scenarios, COTS Tools execution for Analysis; Siemens Tools collaboration for Analysis; CPLM/Tc4SIM development, implementation, and training; CPLM/Tc4SIM testing efforts for the various test and Program environments; NGC-Siemens Collaboration; And Tool Enhancement Requests. The candidate may be required to occasionally travel for the week.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering, from an accredited university, in a discipline applicable to Structural Analysis.
  • 9years of experience with the Structural Analysis User Community, with exposure to specialty.
  • Experience using Analysis Tools supporting mechanical and aerospace applications such as Mathcad and MATLAB.
  • Experience using Finite Element Analysis Tools, Including FEMAP and Nastran.
  • Tools Development & Software Coding Experience such as VBA.
  • Knowledge of program deployment and licensing support.
  • ActiveDOD Secret and/or SCI clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with ASTRA development.
  • Ability to teach classes and provide training guidance.
  • Knowledge of design and analysis tools management.
  • Experience in managing CPLM/Tc4SIM development items, implementation, and training
  • Leadership experience in Structural Analysis Tools, Methods and Processes is preferred.
  • Experience with Optimization Software, Extreme Non-Linear Solutions, and Advanced Composites Execution Methods.
  • Prior Military Aircraft experience is preferred.
  • Current (in scope) SCI or DOD Secret clearance with an investigation in the last 5 years is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain access to special programs preferred.
  • Experience working on Special Access Programs is preferred.
